For true masterpieces browse the classics; there you will find the english langage displayed at its finest (w/out the cancerous distortions of the language we see today). I just finished reading several books by Somerset Maugham

In particular I recommend his collection of short stories. Several stories are about his time working for British Intelligence. There are some rather interesting stories that take place in the far east/Pacific Islands...I'm a sucker for late 19th century tales of adventure set in the tropics

Depends on what you mean by classic, I mean when did the classical period stop and the modern begin. Also literature is part of the mechanism via which language evolves and changes... the english language is not a static animal, otherwise we'd stille bee talkinge like Chaucer.
Many novels written as late as the 60's (eg Catch 22, A Clockwork Orange) are now readily accepted as classics by the literary establishment. Relegating modern literature to the scrap heap is likely to leave one with a somewhat narrow-minded outlook. While old books, with the allure of archaic english can be seductive and certainly serve a purpose, they are also shrouded in the conservativism and bias of their times. They also arose out of particular academic and philosophical environments... and the great majority of these classics can't possibly serve as a true reflection of a postmodern society which has experienced as much as the world has over the last half a century.

If you want to pick bones classical literature is strictly Latin and Greek literature. When people refer to books that are classics they don't mean from the classical period they mean that its a piece of great literature.

Yeah. I wouldn't call it the best book ever though but it certainly is a good one. I've read it. I like his style of narrating. The realism of society is reflected in this story. Great read. I agree, it's incredible.

I read the first season. It was a good read. But I should also mention that at times I felt the lack of detail. Maybe that was just me. Also, that falls under the category of constructive criticism. Also, you killed the person who for a moment I thought was the main character. Not cool but original I guess.

Anyway, I'll try reading the rest of the seasons soon, I want to see what Amanda Klein has in store for me. Thanks for the recommendation. You're a good writer and your imagination also helps.
