We had an absolute blast doing this show. We tried picking every track that reminded us of Hawaii somehow. This has got to be my favorite show so far this year.
There is a story to every song. See if you can figure out the main story line we're trying to tell you.
3am – 4am
1. Juliet – Avalon
Muffin: I couldn’t think of a more appropriate track to start off the set with. It’s all about taking a holiday. That’s exactly what Paul and I did in Hawaii.
2. Yoshimoto – Do What you Do (Trentmoller mix)
Paul: Once we got our car rental settled and were finally in our 4x4 jeep I popped in a CD and this was the first track that was on it. Muffin was totally groovin’ to it while cruising down the Ala Moana Blvd. Our first stop before even reaching the hotel was thanks to Muffin, the Ala Moana Shopping Center. She needed a Hullagirl skirt which she ended up losing anyway lol
3. Rachel Starr – Till there was you (Gabriel & Dresden 12 Step Program mix)
Muffin: This song was actually playing on the airplane while we were flying to Hawaii.
So it became kind of an anthem for both of us while on this trip because it got stuck in our heads and we kept singing it the entire week here. lol
4. Paul Van Dyk ft. Wayne Jackson – The Other Side (Deep Dish other than this side mix)
Paul: We took the Jeep out for a little cruise of the island. We discovered that it’s legal in Hawaii to drive on the beaches and that there is no such thing as a private beach here. After cruising around for a while we discovered a secluded beach that was really in the middle of nowhere. We basically had this long beach all to ourselves! I don’t know why but this song reminds me of that beach and a huge tree root that was there.
Muffin: This track actually reminds me of Paul when we got to the hotel. He opens the mini-fridge, opens a random piece of liquor and quotes this song saying. “I’ll see you on the other side. When I close my eyes.” lol
5. Solid Globe – Lost Cities
Muffin: This track reminds me of touring one of the islands where a volcano had buried whole towns with Lava. Seeing the lava flows was kind of a wake up call for me telling me that Nature is still in charge we’re nothing compared to Nature.
6. Jonas Steur – Castamara
Paul: This track reminds me of watching the sunset for the first time while sitting on our beach. So peaceful. Café Del Mar does have the most beautiful sunset in the world but this is a very close second.,
7. Southside Spinners – LoveStruck 2005 (Klubbheads 2005 mix)
Muffin: I fell in love with Hawaii as soon as I saw it from the airplane when we were coming in for the landing. It looks like a tropical paradise in the middle of the ocean from the air. I can only imagine what the first westerners who discovered these islands thought of them. They must have been Love Struck with their beauty.
8. Kenny Hayes – Ibiza Sky (Alex Morph Skybreach dub)
Paul: Although the Ibiza sky and the Hawaii skies are quite different (it rains less in Ibiza ) this song still kind of reminds me of Hawaii. The waves crashing ashore, remind me of the waves here and a time when Muffin and I both sat on the rocks watching them while just talking and catching up. The exact same thing we did in Ibiza last year.
4am – 5am
1. Tiesto – Ancient Histroy
Paul: The drumming in this track reminds me of a fire eater we saw while having dinner at a restaurant in Honolulu. He had his own drumming guy and was just going crazy with the fire sticks, never seen a performance that intense before.
2. Tiesto – Euphoria
Muffin: This track reminds me of the Euphoria one gets when you climb to the top of a big wave while surfing. I surfed a few places around North America but nothing beats Hawaii. The waves weren’t big for those supposedly one has to come down in the winter months, but nevertheless it was still an experience of a life time.
3. Above & Beyond vs Andy Moor – Air for life
Paul: Going swimming with dolphins was quite an experience. One dolphin kept sniffing my ass. This track reminds me of the whole experience.
4. Motorcycle – Around You (Gabriel & Dresden Mix)
Muffin: This track actually doesn’t remind me of Hawaii at all. It reminds me of a girl that I know was listening to the show that night and for some reason she popped into my head when I was trying to pick this a track to play.
5. Edin Bosniak – Illusions
Paul: This track reminds me of the Lava flows. It’s actually pretty safe to walk on the old lava flows that are on solid ground. You have to be really careful when you get to the coastal areas because even though the flow might look solid, there is a good chance that it might break and you might either fall into the ocean or a lava river which runs underneath.
6. Ian Betts and Ollie Leighs pres: Ayana – Shimmer
Muffin: This track reminds me of the Submarine tour we took of Pearl Harbor. You can still see the airplanes and ships which were shutdown and sunk that day lying on the bottom of the harbour. A very eerie sight if you think that once those wrecks were filled with people.
7. Andy Moor – Halcyon
Paul: This reminds me of a terrestrial downpour we were caught in while exploring one of the islands. The rain just came out of nowhere. It was sunny one minute and the next it was pouring. Tropical weather at it’s finest. It also reminds me of a military base we found in a mountain. Aberrantly, they have missiles in the mountains. At least that’s what the locals told us. There was a sign which said that picture taking was prohibited. Guess what I got a picture of?
8. David Villa & Tito Coca – La Noche
Muffin: This reminds me of the Nene, what is a Nene? It’s the state bird of Hawaii. It’s basically a goose. I don’t know why they chose a goose to be their state bird. There is more chicken here than geese. It also reminds me of the night we spent sleeping on our beach.
9. Colours ft. Domino – Hold me & Kiss Me (Andrea T Mendoza vs Tibet club mix)
Paul: Very simply put this reminds me of our time in Hawaii!
Muffin: “Holding me kissing me baby, Hugging me, feeling me baby, for you is beating my heart, feeling you deep in my soul” This song reminds me of the warmth and friendliness of Hawaii. Everyone here was very helpful and very friendly. I will want to come back here again one day, it’s a very leaned back place where people drive bare foot!
Did you figure out the story? Every track adds another peace to the story. For those of you that know us well it might be easier to figure it out. If you think you got it e-mail me at [email protected]
Also, we do have pictures and we'll post them up within a few days, just have to sort through them.
Hopefully everyone enjoyed the show.
Bye everyone,
Paul and Muffin
