I agree with a lot of statements in this thread. Personally, I feel the newer stuff has no soul (like someone else mentioned).
I got hooked on a lot of the 98-01 productions and have followed releases from '02 to this present day very closely. Over the last 2 years i've noticed that the freshness of the genre has gone considerable down hill. Just about everything that comes out now is very well produced but the overall quality of tracks is lacking. There are still a lot of great fresh and exciting tracks being produced, but not really enough to keep my attention. This is why I have ventured into prog house and prog trance. After a few years i'm sure i'll venture into something else but at this moment, i'm addicted to the prog.
Overall, I personally feel that as the popularity of trance has grown(especially over the internet) there is just to much trance being pushed upon us. How many online soucres do we have to hear trance now compared to 2001? It's rediculous and it seems like every DJ can get a show on a station now a days. This increases the amount of tracks that are heard, therefore, creating more labels and producers. With all the tracks being heard now there are sure a lot more bad tracks being played by DJ's trying to be different. My tracklists get laughed at by some because they're aren't new. To me it seems lots of people just want to hear a new tunes so they can over hype them and play them out before they're actaully released, thinking they're cool since they first heard the track 4 months ago.
For 2005, i'd really like to hear trance go alot more darker and deeper. The dreamy, melodic sound is beautiful but it was been drained of all it's life. Hopefully there will be a few big tracks to come out at the begining of this year with this dark and deep sound which will spawn producers to create more tunes like this. And once that has been beaten to death, they can venture onto something new.
Trance has been stuck in stall for a couple of years now and needs to move forward before everyone gets fed up with the genre and moves on.

Pretty poor thread topic...Mislead me
Why a lot of people do not listen to trance anymore
It's more like 'Why a lot of people do not listen to trance' to me.
If u mean why a lot of trance listeners dont listen to trance anymore, I think it has gotta do with the music 'evolution' thing. There will be ups&downs.
If ure asking why a lot of people dont listen to trance, then I'll say 1 of the main cause in my country is the lame edm cd compilations commercial ads. Comp titles like 'techno, trance, go', 'party 2004/05', 'techno party' and so many more I've seen, containing all eurocheese. People who don't dig trance will most likely condemn edm(this is aka 'techno' to them). Seen a huge no. of local strangers in friendster having 'no techno shit','no crappy shit like techno/trance' & etc written on their fav. music column.

I still like trance, but I like progressive more these days. I think that it's a natural progression for many people. Especially as people mature and develop their scope of EDM. The fact that fewer, quality trance tracks are being produced now also effects the situation. |
Same thing is happening to me.

every year I hear people saying "trance will die this year" "we had the last from the trance genre". this has been going on for the past 4-5 years and trance is still around (yeah we are still posting here on tranceaddict if I recall well). new productions come out some are good and others are bad. trance from 99 was good for the older generation (me included) but have we ever asked ourselves why I think its so good? its not because the music was more clever or original, 2004's trance productions could beat some of 99's most popular releases at any day if you've had listened to them side by side for the first time. as time passes we associate the music we listen to to the events which occured while listening to it which gives us thats nostalgic feeling. in 3-4 years you might catch a track you now despise on the radio and think back, I am sure you will be saying "those were the good times and nowdays all the music produced is shit and boring".
now the other issue is that we have the false impression that 4-5 years ago only good trance got produced. thats not true, there was as much junk being released then as its being released now - it just hasn't survived.

I also agree on this. I live in the U.S also. Ever since I started listening to trance I really never got tired of it. I can see why some people push it off or switch to another EDM genre though. I myself don't really see me as getting tired of it, but for some reason, after I do ecstasy, I tend to not want to listen to Trance for like a couple of days, lol I dont know why, I guess since I listen to Trance while rolling, then when I come off, its like listening to it, brings back feelings of your roll, and in this case your coming down and you dont want those flashbacks(as I would say)of when you were rolling. Its hard to explain but it just is.
I was at one point looking for something frew, new, so I was going to try and listen to some House tracks, and maybe progress into House music, but I put it off, also House music is the style and the vocals, its just like crappy disco music. I do though like only like 2 or 3 house songs that I heard, but I will most likely(99.9%)will never get into it.
Well to some, TRUE trance addicts, trance will never get old or boring. Im always going to stick to trance as my no.1 genre of music, also cause every other mainstream genre sucks, besides Rock which is ok.

for once, i'm gonna have to agree with the man.
i love all electronica (except hardstyle/hard house), but now i'm really into minimal, electro, tech house, and acid. why? the tracks that are coming out in these genres seem more interesting to me than what i hear in trance. trance tracks that come out that i do like are very rare, but still present.
ie. Inivisible Inc. - Stars, made me remember why it is i once liked trance.
James Holden, while being eclectic and dropping all kinds of shit when i saw him, also hinted at that trance feeling.
a lot of us STILL like it, we just don't like any of the tracks that are being put out.
