Less money= getting real jobs= less time in studio= less creativity

sales were up this year=???

The only people making sick cash right now are the Tiesto's, PVD's, AVB's and Ferry Corsten's. The rest of the DJs I guarantee are making 10% of what they make.

Well of course I know that. But rap is a different type of EDM. It is not as production oriented as trance/house/techno/dnb and etc are. Rap is about lyricsm first, at least good rap is. I'm a huge fan of good hip-hop and i don't really associate it with EDM even though it is electronic and it is dance music. It's more of a sampling form of music and music which is oriented to vocal expression.

Well shadow doesn't focus on lyricism and that's what hip-hop is about. When it originated in the Bronx in late 70's it was about the DJ and we all know about that. But by '83 the lyrical MC was born and it was embodied in Kool Mo Dee. It was about telling stories and rocking the crowd. Late 90's saw the rise of west-coast with g-funk and NYC retaliated with hardcore which focused on concious story-telling. To this day underground hip-hop (which is the good hip hop) is focused on lyricism and skillful sampling. MF Doom, Masta Ace, Atmosphere, Brother Ali, Cormega, and etc are clear examples of this. However, beats are imprtant too that's why producers like ANT, Madlib, Pete Rock and etc are golden.

ANT produces for Atmosphere and Brother Ali and most of their productions are average or above average.

Madlib produced Madvillainy for MF Doom, and the production quality on there is average to above average as well.

Pete Rock is very innovative and is never below average imo.

However, we're missing a point here, even though that the hip-hop aritsts that I have listed for the most part have good productions, it is not the production that has gotten them to where they are. In hip-hop you gotta battle to achieve a status, and that comes with lyricism and verbal skills. Rapping first, producing second.

Now don't say look at mainstream hip-hop! I know that most guys in the mainstream are weak on the mic, but most mainstream productions are weak too. You got Kanye West doing it big and Dr. Dre.. but other than that if you got a weak flow, you're goin no where quality wise.

there is skill and talent in rap/hip hop????? whoda thunk it homie??

as for the shitty music out there, blame the big us record companies who will stick a pair of tits on the front of a cd and sell it to every mindless twit thats dumb enough to buy it.

trance and EDM have increased in popularity alot over the past 10 years or so. comercialization was inevitable and now that it is happening the pop spin off with the lasgo's the gigi d'agostinos etc will be part of the music. just deal with it. there will always be great music out there, but instead of 5 of the 10 releases comming out everyweek being good, it will be like 5 in 30 of the releases.

it has nothing to do with ease of production. if you put someone with some basic music training to work they can cram out hits in any style you want... look at brittney spears and jayz and that crew... you think they know what a fuckin piece of sheet music even looks like??? i doubt it...

but making this stupid threads on ta is pointless. first off it always turns into a flame war. TA is populated by genuine trance addicts and prog / techno lurkers who are just here to bash trance and tell the world how great prog and techno are... although techno is pretty kick ass.... cant say the same for prog tho.

not only that but who fuckin cares what the website says. its probably made by a 10 yr old anyways......

trance just simply gets fucking boring.. its not. people start with trance for the most part because for one thing, its largly mainstream, for me at least, its WAY formulaic; its way to limiting aswell, i mean how far can you really go with it? its just loosing its steam, and fast. people who are used to massive breakdowns and hands up in the air, body-covered-in-shivers moments, sure might have a harder time getting used to other genres that dont give off that same feeling, and it might be a little harder to see that other genres can give off that feeling... with some applied attention, a little more knowledge of musical structure and... im just talking out of my ass arnt i?

oh well

anyways this argument is a waste of time.
it all comes down to opinion anyway, and music taste, or lack thereof................
