It isnt possible to beatmatch 2 tracks together without adjusting the pitch. Most records arent produced at the same BPM - sometimes you will have to slow a track down, sometimes you will have to speed it up, this is where knowing the tracks well comes into play.

I personally beatmatch only with the pitch, some people like to manually slow down a track by lightly touching it or grabbing the little metal nip that sticks out where you slip your vinyl onto and spinning it backwards. You will find what works for you.

My only personal advice is, for some this comes easy, for others not so. It will be very frustrating, but stick with it. One thing I have to be honest about, is some people just arent musically gifted to do it - mentally they want to be able to, but physically they lack the musical ability to do it.

I disagree. I think anyone can do it. Not perfectly, but I think anyone can get to the point where they could play in a club and 95% of the clubbers would think they were beatmatching perfectly.

Now as to how long it takes to get to that point, and whether or not you can get beyond that point, that depends on the person.

So if you're not changing pitch...what exactly are you...beatmatching?

Using the pitch controller will not mess up your decks.

Relax... Take a deep breadth and keep practising. Beatmatching won't take you long, i picked it up the first few hours of practise. Also learn to ride the pitch, a skill all DJs should know and use.

Hey Zenn, it takes time. I was practicing for three months on the average an hour almost every night. I thought I was wasting my time but for some reason I kept trying. All of a sudden, one night about three months later I kind of started figuring it out. From there on, it was a much quicker progress. It has a very steep learning curve.
You keep trying and trying without going anywhere and then you hit the sweet spot and from there on it becomes fairly easy.

What I found very helpful was to use the split headphone function (if your mixer has one). Arrange it so that you hear the left turntable in the left earcup and the right turntable in the right earcup. Then start them up and try to align them with the pitch controls only. It is very hard in the beginning but if you keep doing it (even if it doesn't make any sense) you will one day be very surprised.
