There is so much negativity through out this forum. We're chatting on a site called tranceaddict and a majority act as if you dont like trance. Im confused. I just choose not to listen when I hear a mix I dislike; I move on instead of dwelling on it.
I dont think the author of this thread is wrong and certainly does not deserve to be ragged on about it. I think there are a select few that jump on the bandwagon and bash the latest trance track just to fit in. I think that some people are scared to voice their opinion and just go with what others say in hopes to feel accepted into which ever community they want into. Im not afraid to say what I want, hence this post. flame away!

As I've said before, it's the original producer's fault for not ensuring they have to clear new remixes of their material when they join a label. And if they did- it's their fault for clearing the shitty remixes to grab a bit of cash.

maybe because of listening to the critics, they "listen" to the vinyl charts

Why not? It comes out of an artist's royalties to pay a remixer. I doubt Delerium would be happy if Nettwerk (or whoever they're signed to) commissioned a load of P Diddy and Dr Dre remixes of Silence in 2006 to try and sell it to a hip-hop audience, so they should have the common sense to make sure the contract covers the tracks as long as they are licensed to that label.

nope, royalties are different.... When a get track signed, i think most of the time, the ownership of that track goes from the artist, to the label.

which is why tracks are not on every label.

some artists can't even use that name on a different label.

Incorrect. An artist signs a particular alias to a label (which is why some producers are multi-aliased). That's why a producer can't be signed to more than one label under the same alias- they have to move (as FSOL did from Jumpin' & Pumpin' to Virgin Records).

While they're signed to that label they will have their material released by that label. However, tracks are not sold to a label, they are leased. While they are under lease, the label can release them, license them to compilations and do whatever they're allowed to under the contract conditions they made with the artist. However, unless an artist signs a track to perpetuity (forever), the lease will run out after a certain amount of time and the artist is free to do what they will with it.

And the cost of a remix is deducted from the royalties the label pays the artists.
