People are ignorant because they don't need to know anything about it. They don't need to know anything about it because there are so few that actually does. People who like rock need to know something about it to talk about it, because "everyone" knows rock. People who likes EDM can just go "I LIKE TECHNO!" (especially in the US) and don't need to elaborate, because no one knows shit about it. It's very rare someone will actually answer "really, what techno-artists are you into? do you like other genres of EDM as well?". I'm sure 80% of the "techno-lovers" out there would look like a questionmark when being asked that. Or, simply go "DJ SAMMY and DJ MYSTIC ROCKS!".

As long as music is "underground" and not mainstream, ignorance about it will just have to be accepted. You can try to educate all you like, but it's pretty futile. Let it go and enjoy the fact that you're lucky to be able to appreciate the music. Everyone else is missing out.
