I hate to bring up the other board (tribe), but when there was a flame war going on with them, they mentioned that nobody on this board is capable of having a civilized arguement without personal insults. That's one thing we can't really argue against but we can change.

To be honest, I've been posting less and less on this board, simply due to the lack of quality content here being such a turn off.

The majority of threads are either hateful commentaries on DJs habits (like handing out records during a set.. OH NO!!! the horror) or ranting hatred filled diatribes masked as opinion/fact/debate.

Perhaps if we want a nicer community, it needs to be modded heavier.

It may be a little heavyhanded, but there are too many people on this forum who spam. Regardless of content quality, 10 threads from 1 person for example is unaccceptable. Not banworthy, but suspensions and due process are deserving to many people on here.

I do spend most of my time on TRIBE these days, and the variety and quality of threads is the reason.

Hopefully TOTA can become much of the same oneday.. or more like the cozy group it was when I got here post WEMF 03.

why even bring up tribe at all.

who the fuck said anything about tribe. when 75% of us are 40 years old with kids and full time jobs than maybe we can compare with that board and when TA stops being an internationally recognized board in the music world than maybe we can compare.

Anyways, there is not anymore and any less flaming or whatever you call it on TA now than there was before. The problem is that flaming will always exist but at least have it make some sense (be funny and light-hearted) and no personal issues should be brought up. Also, the problem is that we are starting to know each other personally and also expect certain responses from certain people. So why, on purpose, get people mad (instigating). Certain people know that they are going to get a certain response by what they write. If you write in a JZ thread that you don't like progressive breaks and find them boring, you only write that to get a response from people, no other reason. Why would you do that? Because you have no respect.

don't people know it's rude to bring up politics or religion with people you hardly know? and even with those that you do know well. but this is done on a constant basis on TOTA. If you want to discuss politics on a serious level go to another forum that is made specifically for that. People feelings get hurt when others put down their beliefs on a regular basis.

Political Forum

i just found this nice active political forum where you can be annonymous with your posts and not ever meet anyone from.

unfortunately, there is always a possibility of meeting someone off this board, so why be offensive?

the genre vs. genre arguements cannot be avoided but we all have to be open minded and not be beligerent.

no more putting down people for what kind of music they like, please. the secret is to not judge a person by what they listen to but for what they stand. take the time to listen to others and see what kind of person they are other than what is in their CD player.

i think its fair to be able to state your opinion on the matter, but do it in a respectful manner.

if someone says the set was boring, then fine they found it boring...i think its completly valid for somebody to say that, because its their review, and thats what the thread was there for.

if they bash, then yes i agree, that should stop...but let the reviews continue, as long as they are on the set, the music, and not the people.

I could never understand why people are more willing to say things online that they probably wouldn't say face to face.

I agree with RJs comments here, a little more respect for other people's opinions is in order. A little lighthearted flaming is ok, but everybody knows when someone steps over the line.

We enjoy a diverse community here on TOTA, let's not spoil it with childish behaviour.

well, the difference is:

"DJ so and so is soooooooooooooooooooooooooo bbbbbbooooooooorrriiingggggg, ZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzz. i don't understand why anyone would listen to him. who ever is a fan is a moron"

"DJ so and so did not play the sort of music i like, or did not play what I expected. i found his set not exciting. i had a fun time catching up with friends and such."

As many good points that are made here Marg's, it also comes off as rude and combative in it's opening.

As for the last paragraph, political discourse and conversation is not shackled by antiquated social norms these days, thanks to the media, and many avenues of daily discussion like messageboards available to the modern public. If one's feelings are hurt by differing opinions, or the immature behaviour of others, then they need to grow up as much as the potential offenders.
