That's the one thing about this business... Whilst it's easy enough to buy decks, keeping the motivation going is the hard part.
To keep the motivation you really have to push yourself sometimes and even I sometimes feel, 'man I'm never going to break through'. Put yourself in my shoes, always been supporting the other guy. Seen people blow up and become huge around me even though I've been going as long as or longer than they have.
From my point of view I know I have the skills and in a lot of cases have more skills than a lot of top 100 DJs (I'm not ashamed to admit it and have even been able to prove it on ocassions).
I'm 33 (nearly 34) now and the way I see it, I'm coming to the end of what's essentially been an intersting ride. But I also have to look past the 'making it' talk and realise that I actually just enjoy making people dance. This will most likely keep me going for longer than most of you he he...
Take advantage of every chance you have to present yourself to other people. Even if it's just submitting your mix to an online radio station. Hearing it in a different scenario is a trip and hearing someone give you props for it is a blast.
The reality is this, so many DJs make quality demos these days that promoters are loosing interest in them.
I'm going to play in Ibiza this year just based on knowledge on a friend of a friend (No dates fixed yet) and didn't actually have to submit a demo but they though it was nice that I did anyways.
If you loose heart then go clubbing or raving and you will soon find it again as you will learn a lot just by hearing stuff being played out. Plus you meet people. Bring CDs with you and hand them around... not because people will give you gigs because of it but people will remember you. May even ask you to do a party for them.
This is how it starts.
Cheers
