hi. i interviewed armin and wrote the piece. i also had to cut and edit about ten pages of transcript down to the roughly 300 words you see there. maxim has a certain tone to it, and everything that is in the magazine, particularly the short pieces like this one, have to stick to the tone.

armin was very cooperative in providing the kinds of anecdotes that go with the magazine. there was no where near enough space to go into detail that would be useful for anyone who knows dance music, but that's not really maxim's audience. you've probably never heard armin speak like that because you've never seen him in a publication like maxim. personally, i was delighted to be able to feature EDM in a mainstream publication that wasn't making fun of it in some way. you have no idea how hard it is to get any sort of respect for EDM.

and yes, it is a typical men's magazine. again, i'm STILL impressed (and very happy) that this piece managed to run the way it did. trust me, it's a good thing.
