I started out years ago using glowsticks and only recently gave up on them. I still would love to use them, as I think of myself as pretty good, but it glowsticking, and anything else with lights attached to your appendages is getting a lot of bad responses recently. Either people think you're just out for attention, or people get mad because they think you're gonna stand there and flash them in their face all night long.
Personally, I always liked to just go off on my own and do my own thing with them. I couldn't care less about what other people saw or even if they appreciated what I was doing, I simply wanted to move with them because I felt it was cool.
But using something that glows for me has gotten to the point where I gotta run off and do it in a corner to avoid being asked to give people lightshows every 5 mins or so. If people watch, it was ok with me, but being stopped every track so that 4 or 5 people get on their knees and expect me to dance like a trained monkey for them, it gets annoying for me.
Yes, I've had people come up to me in clubs and comment on my glowsticking skills, or ask me for help learning themselves, or remember me from nights passed because of what I do, and that was kinda cool. In fact one of the last times I used my LEDs was at Tenaglia at boa, and some guy comes up to me and comments on it. We start talkin, and it turns out it's the same guy who gave me my first lightshow back in '98 with his own LEDs. Crazy coincidence, and he complemented me on the fact my skill has now surpassed him. But I've also run into just as many people who have no skill and either try to push a lightshow on me, or try to give me advice, and that is what really annoys me.
Oh but I still think you can glowstick to house music...It's all about how you feel when you move, not what the accepted 'standard dance' is. Just go to move and have fun, if that means movin those arms in those figure 8's and circles, so be it. |
oh man, thats really too bad. I absolutly love doing my own thing with glow sticks, im not that good, but i have a great time. I just find they add so much atmosphere for me. They kinda make the world complete, because in the end the sticks are in tune with me, and i dont have to rely on the house lighting to get me into it.
please dont give up on them! i love to watch people with glow sticks, especially if they are good. And i just love to see people in their own little world when they are dancing with them.

It's too bad that ppl have such negative experiences with them. Personally, I just love dancing with them in my hands, it really enhances my mood, but more and more I don't want to because there's always animosity comming from someone. It's sad really. People should just enjoy themselves and stop being fixated on what others are doing. |
true that ,i love using glowsticks, i used to use them all the time in montreal, but here i get dirty ass looks sometimes, like i've killed a baby or something lol lighten up a little, obviously no one wants it in their face, but if someone is just enjoying themselves, and staying out of your way, don't go out of your way to ruin their fun, thats just rude and shallow.
