some good points made in this thread...by col and kr00t0n in particular...heres my 2 cents from a third persons perspective (or atleast my best effort at it )

i agree with col here n certainly think that the quality of the ''show'' ASOT in terms of variaty and versatility has gone down and has been for quite a while. But kr00t0n makes a good point here...if u dont like it...go elsewhere. That's where the real problem is....a lot of people are too lazy or challenged to try and look for stuff they want to hear...they want it handed to them on a silver platter...sitting in their rooms n getting to listen to stuff for free.

So to put things into perspective...should Armin change things around?
well..there r 2 ways of looking at it...the current easier-on-the-ear music is bringing a lot of new trancers (something that happens with most mass productions)...and that can only be a good thing...as with more demand there will be more supply.
on the other hand...as far as some of us old faithful are concerned...maybe its time to move on and stop complaining...wht we experienced a few yrs ago with the advent of ASOT might one day become a part of trance history...and we were lucky enough to be a part of it

cheers ppl

Good summary.

First and foremost I'm glad that you accept the show has declined a bit recently - it really has changed, so no it's not necessarily my "tastes changing". Perhaps I should look elsewhere. But I really believe Armin can do better and has done in the past, and I just wish he would take note and perhaps change things just a little on ASOT. More variety.

I agree with the fact that ASOT has gone narrower on its coverage of tracks. I don't think the quality declined as much as quantitive decline.

I disagree with the fact that you need a vocalists to make it big these days. I mean some of my favorite produces so as M.I.K.E. or Solid Globe never used vocalists and their songs are still huge. I mean now there is a new trend of using minial vocals and vocals as if it's just a sample (Whiteroom - The White Room).

Well, it's true.

Oh, and Armin plays fluffy crap he doesn't like so he can be #1. It's a known fact.

and thank gawd that james z, dekay or nic fancilli don't drop any trance anthems - each of them has created their own unique sound - dekay has created "trousy" - that's what makes them so much better than armin IMO. people of the edm world are talking about these dj's and saying they are paving the way for the next generation - armin ain't doing jack shit but spinning the same old boring trance anthems.

Ok I'll tell you what I think about that.
Armin has his own sound it's called trance

Trance anthems are boring only in YOUR opinion,
personally I love them, for example I'd prefer hearing
Armin play just once Moogwai - Viola (Armin Remix)
than whole set of the people you mentioned.
Again - I respect what they do, but if any of them is talking
shit about Armin that makes me think they're fucking losers
with nothing better to do than be jealous because music
Armin is playing is more widely listened to than what they're
playing, and you agreeing with them makes me lose respect for you.

You say Armin is little known, who the hell then heard
of one Matthew Dekay? (who's a friend of Armin's btw., and so is Zabiela, they've all been seen together at WMC, maybe not closest friends but still have a professional attitude), the more I
read what you write, the more I think you don't like trance at all.
But you said it already yourself, you're into house music.

Hehehe, just realised that in all probability, if more 'innovative' trakcs started getting more commercial air, I bet the people who like to think themselves 'underground' would moan about it

I love it when people get arsey when 'their' genre becomes popular, so funny how some people react

ps. this post is a broad one, I don't mean anyone in specific
