My "faith" is common sense, education and logic.

You won't ever find me sitting there "accepting" anything because "God made it that way"

"Why is the Sky Blue? Cause God made it that way and it's not for us to question God"

To me...that is accepting being passive and not growing on your own two feet and being responsible.I question everything...and I always will.
Organiazed religion is just a way to cop out of understanding and accepting ignorance and fear. I'll pass on that thank you very much.

I will be asking the question "Why" till the day I kick the bucket (and probably even that won't get me to shut up lol)

+1 for the Atheist list

i disagree with a lot of religions, ie.. in order to be an accepted woman you have to "hide" your face or you will be dismembered.

ya I know. well imo, alot of relgion these days is modified for personal interest. I am not that religious really (well I am in concept), but I'd probably be labeled as sinner by the hardcore followers

I'm 100% atheist.

My gf is mostly agnostic I think... she was raised catholic but doesn't believe it all.

Every human being is born a weak atheist... a person who does not understand the concept of God and consequently cannot believe in it. The belief in God is only something acquired by indoctrination... people gain ideologies uncritically when they're younger and thus can be made to believe in things not founded upon logic (ie religion, cultural beliefs, etc). Modern culture has sooo many beliefs that people take for granted... and they're beliefs that people don't even know they have. For example, religion supports the idea that man has the right to rule the world, instead of just living as another mammal. People have the unfounded belief that technology somehow makes the world a better place, while our stressful, painful lives have us working 40+ hours a week when nomadic hunter-gatherers had to work 2 hours a day.

The principles of religion support ideas that favour human life and growth (why else has religion became so prevalent?), but they haven't been tested for sustainability. Religion is deliberately constructed to support its own growth... for example, catholicism forbids birth control and supports procreation, which in turn increases the number of catholics. For sustainable development, no couple should have more than 2 kids (except for extras to make up for those who choose not to have kids), but few religions support this (I have no desire to ever have children, by the way). A religion that discouraged procreation would die out in a land full of religions that believe that "every sperm is sacred".

The problem is that this method isn't sustainable. Religion assumes that humanity can grow without bounds. God created the Earth for man to rule it and turn it into a paradise. The problem is that paradise isn't happening because the assumptions religion makes are untested and unproven. You can't build a civilization by trial and error.

So I not only denounce religion because of its logical fallacies (which you're all aware of), but I also am strongly against it because it is responsible for a lot of the evils in this world.

Another point... religion makes enemies of our natural instincts. Greed and lust are sins? Unfortunately, they're requirements for evolution to take place, and since religion claims that man is above evolution (he's not an animal, after all), these traits become bad ones.

Religion isn't 100% of the problem, but it's so dangerous because people think it's a solution. It's not. Every human being on this Earth could live their life according to the Bible, and we'd still destroy the planet.

100% athiest.

I say "oh my god" several times a day. It is embedded in my vocabulary, and I just like saying it. I also say Armin is god. Both of these sayings are in different context to the actual "God" that so many people are brainwashed into believing in !!

I am thankful that somone created this big fat magical story they call The Bible, because it has left us with some seriously amazing art and architecture !! It also gives us good frday off so we can party at Decadence every year.

I love how all these Athiests here act like any who believes in a higher power is automatically labelled an ignorant, naive, brain-washed and simple-minded individuals What a fucking joke!

I'm agnostic, but please don't add me to the list. I'd rather be caught with my hand in my pants than be associated with such arrogance

It's all about tolerance, man. It's not as if people can't be friends if they have different beliefs. How many conservatives do you know with liberal friends, and vice versa? They probably think that people of different political opinions are stupid, ignorant, brain-washed, etc, but it doesn't mean they have less respect or don't want to be friends.

And with respect to brain-washing, yes, most religions perpetuate themselves by indoctrination. Why are the children of Catholics more likely to be Catholic than the children of Shintos or Hindus? The minds of children are much, much, much more easy to convince of beliefs founded upon faulty logic than adults are.

Kids are gullible... that's why you can convince them of the existance of Santa Claus. When you try to convince them of the existance of God, they're more likely to believe you than adults are, and are more likely to adopt those same beliefs and carry them into adulthood. Of course, most religious families indoctrinate their children into believing in God much more deeply than they do about Santa Claus, so the belief is harder to dispel. Santa Claus gets focused on once per year; many religious parents force their kids to pray every day and send them to some kind of service once a week, so they're constantly exposed to it. It's just very difficult for people to abandon those kind of beliefs when they're so deeply ingrained in their lives.

There are very few people who grow up as Atheists and become religious later in life. A far greater number of people grow up in a religious home and decide to become Atheist or Agnostic later in life.
