Despite where trance is going we still get a pretty good mix of it here.
I would like it to be around a bit more often.

In the past while we've gotten one of the most epic uplifting sets I've ever heard from Dumonde, another great one from Blank and Jones and in my opinion the best set I've heard from Armin at Decadence 2, even though it was hard as hell.

Well, technically Armin does play a lot of progressive house. It's a mix of trance and house. And I would hardly call Armin's sets "hard". If you think Armin has dropped hard sets, then I guess hearing someone like DJ Scot Project or Yoji Biomehanika would then be deadly for you.

It is true that music is changing, and many styles are blending, but also keep in mind music comes in cycles. House will soon hit a peak, if not already, then drop off, just as tech trance and prog trance will drop off, and we will see a re-emergence of epic, melodic trance. Although to be honest, I think this remergence is occuring with several German, Dutch, and Japanese producers.

I see what the original poster is saying ... it's that he wants more pure trance, and less prog trance. I too am not a big fan of prog trance. I recommend going to some raves, where you'll hear a lot of classic tunes, and also new tunes. Either that, or wait when a melodic trance DJ shows up. DJ Dean is going to be here in May, so that should be good.

Uplifting trance... What I love the most. I heard that last on Min Tian by Limin Li on ETN at 00:00 on Fridays... Monster epic tunes. When I last listened, it was 3 hours of MONSTROUS HUGE FUCKIN UBERTRANCE tunes. Svenson - Sunlight Theory (Ozone remix) and Nebulus - Destination Paradise. Things like that.

I really hope that Cosmic Gate at Viva delivers. I'm jonesin' for some serious live trance. Not prog, not any of that other shit, pure, unadulterated ubertrance.

COSMIC GATE STYLE.

I sometimes wish trance would go back to 1998-2001... With Gouryella and such. I would KILL to hear Ligaya live on a huge sound system. I'm so young, oh man

I want to hear Gamemaster in a club... is that too much to ask? Oh, and Saltwater.

I think EVERY night should include a 5 song classic-segment

I am not going to argue with DJ El Kay Dee or samhouse what is trance or house. I know trance, and if its changing:

then please do not call it trance when it is house.

I have listened to trance since 1995, and what Armin played was house, not trance. You guys can call it trance, but it was not trance. You guys can tell me things are changing, yet I can go to 20 stations on the net that play trance, that is not played in Toronto (or so I found, unless someone points me in the right direction.)

If you wish I can list the stations as my evidence.

DJ Irish plays trance.
DJ Ben Lost plays trance.

The type of music those DJs play is not played in Toronto.

But please, do not call house, trance.

What is your evidence ?

I agree entirely with you doublemandala

I have both of those tracks... Lost Tribe- Gamemaster actually doesn't fit in a modern trance set because the production was so different then... the intricacies of production have grown leaps and bounds even since '98. I can't really explain it but even when you fit in in a set where it should be it doesn't sound right.

That's why alot of producers have gone ahead and done remixes of these classic tracks to make the production styles up to date with the current evolution of trance so that they don't sound out of place/date when you mix them in.

PS- Not that genre-izing music is important enough to fight over but Armin was playing tech-trance last Thursday- not house... and it was by-far the best set I've ever heard from him. Nice to see he's moving away from that formulaic anthem trance in into some more thoughtful stuff

Psssht. Figures you'd say that.

lol

Agreed, Armin went way harder than I've ever heard him go before.. It was strange, but given the fact I was dancing my ass off, I didn't terribly mind either.

There is Trance in Toronto, but only when the big names come. I agree; we need more resident DJ's that play good, journeyrific epic Trance.
