Your opinion isn't the issue.

You picked a piss poor place to voice it.

Should I have started my own thread? I didn't realize this thread was sacred.

You may consider my post disrespect, but I think all this fake love for JP2 is disrespect. If they were to be respectful, they woulda cared when he was alive.

do you assume that they didn't when he was ? who is giving him fake love? Prince Reiner of Monaco died just recently, i have absolutely no connection to him whatsoever, nonethless out of respect i wish him peace, is that considered fake love? a lot of people never even knew Cinar Onat when he passed away here, yet they still feel inclined to pay their respects, what a shame to see all that fake love ..

To SOME extent, the worlds cares and concerns for JP2 are valid (mainly devout catholics), and they made him a cultural icon from the bottom up, HOWEVER, a huge portion of the people that care right now (your neighbours, your friends, etc.) had their feelings completely influenced by the media. These are the same people who would skip over a POPE story if reading the news paper back when he was alive and well, but in his death, they all of a sudden care.

i personally don't know a whole lot of people who aren't Catholic that are going out of their way about all this just because they suddenly 'care' that JP2 has now died. where do you come up with these generalizations ?

atleast he's been laid to rest, so now you can expect a lot less of this tiresome media attention about him as you seem to see it .. the Pope was hoping to make the world a better place, whether that be through life or death.

RIP JP2

I see it everywhere, amongst my friends (who never practice religion), classmates, etc. He's a great guy and he meant well, that's great. He cared to spread world peace and that's very nobel of him. But don't get me wrong, I feel he should have gotten more attention and respect from all these hipocrits around me when he was alive rather than in his death. I'm not saying people shouldn't care now that he's dead, I'm saying people should've cared when he was alive.

And I'll be honest, I didn't pay much attention to his life at all, but I'm also not one to mourn his death half as much as some of the people who were like me.

well you're right .. i really shouldn't have paid my respects to Prince Reiner when he died seeing as how i knew virtually nothing about him when he was alive, nor would i have cared less at the time he was alive when something about him was on the news.. i suppose he's quite undeserving of my respect now in that regard?

perhaps you should go on a crusade preaching the absence of tribute, grief, or mourning in the event of someone's death for which they were never really recognized during life by that individual, due to hypocrisy. if you would like i can provide you the names of various individuals here who posted condolences in Cinar Onat's tribute thread when he passed away who knew nothing about him or even knew he existed for that matter until his untimely death. that must be quite disrespectful to him based on what you're saying.

Are you kidding me? You're putting words in my mouth dude.

It's ok to give your respects when somebody dies, but all I'm saying is to make a big deal about it, act like you've suffered a great loss, and make it a conversational focal point for days if not weeks after the actual death is a little much, if one never seemed to care before.

btw. terrible taste to bring Cinar into this.

i don't think it's terrible taste at all to compare this with other losses suffered. why does JP2 deserve any less attention or respect from anyone just because he's a public figure? i don't know who your friends are that seem to be making such a big deal about his loss as you seem to put it, but honestly what does it matter ?

Every polish person I know.

The pope deserved respect and was quite honestly one of the few honest souls in the world. However the media is nutorious for drawing emotion out of a crowd which would otherwise not shed a tear.

I'll compare his death to the public outcry that was shown for Princess Diana, or JFK jr.

They died and recieved so much attention and people actually cried for them who have never met or even knew who they really were. It matters to me because I hate how the media does this when somebody famous dies.

if your friends suddenly feel inclined to bring attention to the Pope's death despite having known nothing about him previously, then atleast they might learn something positive about what he's done in the process. if that ever becomes the case, i can't say that's all that bad.
