having a bad or onboard soundcard surely doesn't help, but it has nothing to do with the capability to generate highs or not. Vanguard can generate highs, and it's even known to have a nice decent high end, it's sound cutting nicely through the mix.

Can you post a sample of what you meen when you say that each sound you make has "no highs" ?

a new soundcard wont do anything. soundcards dont generate sound. as staticblue mentioned.

i can switch my sound driver to my integrated soundcard from my delta 1010. sounds pretty much exactly the same.

99.99% of the time the fault is human. its nearly always human.

Yeah, to test I also switched also from Delta 1010 to onboard AC97' soundcard and sounded pretty much the same.

most of the problem was in the version of vanguard and the fl spectroman...

im getting a really high ringing noise when i layer 3 of them together..its very subtle...but if you listen long enough it kinda hurts your ears

ive tried all sorts of fruity filters to cut out that high, but im wondering if you have any suggestions

Interesting topic, I have a tip.
I use Vanguard (including many others such as,crusherXstudio z3ta+), as well and just purchased the new spectralive (dirt cheap at $25 IMHO) plugin (www.crysonic.com), and it really made a huge difference. It's like BBE or PSP warmer but they are out of my budged at the moment. Here is what I discovered, download the demo and apply spectralive to a track and (choose the 5th preset I think) put the volume down by about 5-8Db's and play the same track (dry) at the same time, the mix jumps straight out the speakers. In fact all my instruments for some reason sound punchier and clearer when passing through spectralive, my two cents worth.

You can bounce your stuff and cut it every 40 bars and apply Voxengo demos to them...since they have like a 30 second limit before they go blank. That's what I did before buying the full versions.

I've used Voxegenos Sonic Finaliser before. Really good for opening up the high end and making the top ends of a mix really jump out at you. I found it complemented the heavy compression of vintage warmer pretty well which seems to work wonders for the mid to lower end of the spectrum =)
