I'm going to post this topic on me and my friend site pbnd.tripod.com tell me if there is anything I should change, incorrect statements
The War on Drugs costs taxpayers $35 Billion a year. $35 Billion. Now, as a country founded by people that absolutely detested taxes, we might want to look at how well our taxed dollars are being put to use. My guess, really shitty.
The War on Drugs was started as a program to help deal with the rampant drug use that our country had begun in the 70s and 80s. Heavy drugs, such as cocaine and heroine where the main focus of the program during this period. Stiff punishments were handed out during this period in hopes of curbing the prevalence of these “hard” drugs. Well, for once the boneheads in charge got something right. Up until the 90’s the use of the drugs plummeted. However, since that time not much has change has happened, in fact like an old man on Viagra, drug use has gotten a second wind and grown. Although only about 5.4% of college students use cocaine, this number has doubled since 1993. And the wacky tabacky? Well, just like the users of this drug, its use has not really done much of anything, although it is very slowly growing. But the number of people that smoke the refer are much larger than the hard drugs. From anywhere between 15-20% of Americans have smoked el weedo in the past year. This is reflected in the War on Drugs.
So far this year, and for all you morons we are only a third of the way through, there have been 550,643 drug arrests. Holy shit boys! Way to go, you certainly are getting the job done! But wait, 256,053 of these arrests are for weed. By the end of the year there will be nearly 2,000,000 drug arrests, at least 45% will be marijuana offences.
Now any idiot can see my tone here. The questions I raise are; should nearly 1,000,000 be arrested for marijuana a year? Should we spend $5 billion a year just prosecuting these stoners, let alone incarcerating them? Let’s check out the reasoning behind “refer madness” and see if this drug should be illegal.
When smoked, weed lasts up to 24 hours. Negative effects while high include nausea, coughing, headaches, dizziness, loss of coordination, but nothing life threatening to you or any one around you. Over time, heavy use of weed has been linked to memory loss. Compared to legal drugs, such as tobacco and alcohol, cannabis is a sissy of a drug. While I do not smoke that refer, there are most users are able to function perfectly well in society. Something, chronic users of heavier drugs cannot. So it is clear then, weed is a relatively harmless drug.
For all you pranksters out there, try yelling fire in a movie theater and see where you end up. You’ll be some guy’s bitch in prison, that’s where. The reason is you are endangering the lives of others. This is why drug enforcement is needed. People can’t drive drunk, or high because they are endangering the lives of other. For those that do and don’t get caught, rest assured there’s a nice place in Hell reserved for you. For you selfish smokers, all of whom I would like to hit in the face with a bat, who smoke in public without the concent of people around you, you are endangering their lives. Your precious cigarette smoke is also filling their lungs, second hand smoke, and killing them. That is why public smoking should be illegal throughout the U.S. Hard drugs, such as cocaine and heroine need to be outlawed because they make their users unstable, and cannot be trusted within society.
Marijuana, however, is more of a combination of alcohol and cigarettes. If marijuana were legal in all cases except the following, there would be no threat to society, and there legality therefore would not be questioned. One, just as with cigarettes, a stoner should not be able to walk around smoking a joint getting everyone around him intoxicated. Although, being high on marijuana is not life threatening, if a bystander is high and does not realize it and say gets in a car, lives become threatened. Which brings us to two. As with alcohol, marijuana impairs judgment. Therefore, it should be illegal for some half-baked person to go to a shooting range and fire off a few rounds, or hop in a car to get some munchies. Aside from these cases, marijuana does not pose as a threat to human life, nor society. I believe it is crystal clear that it should be legal.
If marijuana were legal, drug enforcement officials could concentrate on the drugs that really matter, acid, crack, boom, rock, heroine, zippity dippity, and LSD. Also, taxpayers wouldn’t be paying billions of dollars to prosecute and incarcerate “dope fiends.” There are two things our government is wasting in the war on drugs, time and money. Yes, the war needs to continue, however, marijuana is about as threatening of an enemy as the army of Jamaica. Common sense. Marijuana should be legal, just as cigarettes and alcohol are. But, the refer madness will continue. Fear and tradition will outweigh reason once again, and our taxpayer dollars will continue to fight causes that simply need to be left alone.
