The kid probably had his phone on but on silent to make sure he has a chance to speak with his mother since her schedual is way different then his being 9 hours ahead. Also being in a war zone & the mother not always being able to get to a phone. So when she called he had to pick it up.

Im not saying the teacher needs a beat down. Just since now the teacher fully realizes the situation the kid is in & still suspends him 10 days, i say give him a short but swift kick in the junk. Just something to make him crouch in pain a minute or two.
