That is true. Some of the best tracks I've ever heard are the only good thing that artist ever made.

you can determine who is/isn't consistant as a fact in several ways, by using objective criterea such as:

who is the most consistent: who makes the most tracks of the same genre
who is the most inconsistent: who is the most erratic in their productions
who is the most consistent: who do most people think is the most consistent
who is the most inconsistent: who do most people think is most inconsistent

the answers to these questions would be fact, and therefore the producers would be factually consistent to an adequate extent.

whereas

who is the most consistent: who always makes good or bad music
who is the most inconsistent: who makes sporadically good and bad music

the answer to the first question, most people will list their favorite artist or their least favorit artist, because most people believe their favorite artist(s) to be infallable, and when thinking of who makes the wors music consistently will probably go first to their most hated artists(s)(the sammy's, darude's, and so on). the answer to the second could go either way, people might list someone they like as being inconsistent, but that still doesn't change my point.

I could easily list a producer that I like as inconsistant and a producer I don't like as being consistant.

the former will probably happen, and i did that myself. if someone says that someone they don't like is consistant, then they probably mean consistantly bad.

Okay, so getting back to naming which producers are most consistent/inconsistent:

In addition, Paul van Dyk is fairly consistent.

BT and Paul Oakenfold are inconsistent (mainly due to their failed attempts to "crack" the mainstream market)

if i hear one more moron use this shallow cop out of a "philosophy", i might go cuckoo.

Do you understand the definition of OPINION... There is no right or wrong answer... There isnt an Encyclopedia in the world that will tell you the best track of all time, the worst producer of all time or the most consistent producer of all time...

My opinion is Oliver Lieb is the most consistent producer... To me he is a genious... Does that mean everyone else should THINK so too? Ofcourse not... Because its MY perception... whether you agree or disagree its your perogative.

PVD is consistent alright. He uses the same bassline and synths in all his songs.

I saw the post title, and that is the first artist that came to mind regarding most consistent. I would also include Richard D James as one of the most consistent.

Will read the rest of the thread now, and I doubt I could name a most incosistent. I think anybody putting out bad tunes would sound inconsistent to me.

Have to disagree with your OPINION here.

Most of what I have heard from Ozgur has been quality, and Oliver Lieb I have nothing to say that he has been nothing but brilliant since I have heard of him - including backtracking into the early 90's. And as for Sander K, my opinion of him is exactly what you stated about Oliver Lieb, hehe. Some is quality, some I just fall asleep and don't feel anything towards.

What's the difference, really? You know I'd let you sit on my face any day ( !!!), but I think you're wrong this time. Obviously your favorite producer isn't going to be someone who has only put out a single good track, but someone who is consistent.

Like, for example, say Space Manoeuvres - Stage One is my favorite trance track, but Quivver hasn't put out as much other stuff that I like as much. That means he's not my favorite, and inconsistent. Oliver Lieb on the other hand... I like pretty much every track he's ever produced. That makes him my favorite, because he is consistent.

You can't say a producer who is not your favorite, is the most consistent, because it's all opinion in the end.

I own several Lieb productions and remixes, and they are some of my favorite tracks ever. I would probably consider him one of my favorite producers. However there are a lot of LSG tracks, Paragliders - Change Me and others that I've listened to and didn't like much at all. On the other hand, Substraumbulism, Lost Vagueness, The Fade and Netherworld are some of my favorite tracks ever.

I like most of the Sander productions that I've heard, but there are plenty I haven't heard so I can understand there could be some bad ones. I might also just like his style.

As far as Ozgur goes, maybe I'm being unfair. I love External Key, but his mix of Arcadia left a lot to be desired. I haven't heard much of his other work, so my pool is rather small.
