What they share, rightly, is a disdain for the corrupt Lieberals. They have both, independently and for their own reasons, decided to vote against the Lieberal-NDP budget.

BTW, the Lieberals and the NDP have an informal alliance at the moment. Were you even aware of that?

Don't fall for their lies.

Sure, there's no coalition now, but in the event the Conservatives win an upcoming federal election, they will almost certainly not do any better (and more likely worse) than the current # of seats the Liberals hold. In order to function as a government, they'd have to rely on Bloc support to get anything passed - and therein lies the "coalition / alliance" that people speak of.

By the time there is a next election the liberals will have found a new riding for her to be in.

This session, the Lieberals relied on all parties to govern, including the Bloc. How do you think Bill C-38 got past 1st reading...

The CPC will have to do the same. Actually, liberals and centrists would like it because the CPC would have to accomidate the other parties to govern properly.

Ultimately though, all minority governments are unstable. Eventually, a majority will emerge, probably when the fiscal imbalance is addressed.

In the meantime, get the corrupt Lieberals out of power and clean up government. Autitor-General Shiela Fraser just came out with some recommendations, and so did the CPC.

Sure... you have to rely on various parties for various issues as a minority... but who do you REGULARLY fall back on? In this case, the NDP has routinely been supporting Liberal votes.

I highly doubt the CPC could regularly count on the support of the Liberals or NDP, so they'd have only the Bloc to look to.

And, for the record, I believe Paul Martin when he says he didn't know what was going on with the sponsorship scandal. Even though he was the Finance Minister, I blame Chretien (who coincidentally never has anything to say on the subject since he came out of office).

How can you be a finance minister and not be aware of finances? That makes you either a) an idiot and incompatent, or b) a liar.

Either one doesnt bode well for a prime minister.

and hence there is an even better reason to be cynical about the so called "democratic process".

It was the CPC that the Lieberals used to "fall back on" most this session (until the Gomery Commission did its work). The NDP and Bloc voted AGAINST the Lieberals! The CPC abstained.

Oh really? Odd.... having a look at the LEGISinfo site on Parliament's website, of the bills that have recorded votes:

CPC voted against: 9 (C-2, C-11, C-13, C-14, C-17, C-21, C-31, C-32, C-39)

CPC voted for: 7 (C-3, C-5, C-9, C-22, C-23, C-24, C-30) (of which one was a vote to raise the pay of MPs)

There are no listed bills on the site from which the CPC abstained. Sure looks like the Grits haven't been counting all that much on the Conservatives to prop them up based on these numbers.
