Goa refers to a style of music which was brought out of India by globetrotting DJs and producers in the mid-90s. Psytrance is the more dancefloor-friendly version which emerged in the late-90s after many of the producers began going digital. One followed the other but they are NOT the same. The softer ethnic-flavoured style of Sheyba, Hallucinogen, and early X-Dream has very little in common with Astrix, Midi Miliz, and Wizzy Noise. It just so happens that many of the big names in Goa went along with the shift, and so you have artists like Etnica which have made music in both eras. I agree that the definitions are loose - but to the trained and knowledgeable ear a song can be found to be one or the other, and the division is usually made easier by year of release. Pre-1999, it's almost entirely Goa... after that, not so much. These days, there is only one modern artist album I would actually call "Goa" and that's Torakka's Far Out Express. The terms "Goa" and "psy" are NOT interchangeable.
