I don't see anything wrong with calling events raves, it just simplifies things. It's alot shorter than saying "an organised dance event where they're playing house and trance music", and then having to give a long tedious explanation as to what house and trance music are, and try to get it into their heads that it's not called techno.

keep calling it a rave, and people will always think about candy kids and cheesy music in other words, a place where you don't want to go.

rave is such a plague that people even use it to describe clubs like aria or stereo... or our beloved music, hey man "that rave music sucks".
