If you take Route 17 up rather that the thruway it cuts off an hour and a half of the drive, and there is no tolls on route 17 as well! If anyone needs these directions let me know....they are a BIT more complicated but all-in-all pretty simple and worth the shoter drive and less tolls......
Also if you time it to skip peak hours at the border and in toronto, you should get there in about 7 hours
If you are crossing the border in Niagara Falls you only need a drivers lisence, but I know (for future advice) they are MUCH more strict about having passports when you go up to Montreal (route 87)....you often have to stop at customs if you don't have a passport!
And Pheonixbebe is right....guv will strip search you to the bone, and you often might feeel a bit uncomfortable with WHERE they are putting their hands...they mean business, especially with guys!!
Oh and Guv does take credit cards, but it is a pain in the ass....Pheonix is also right about changing money at the border...if you use US money in a club you get RAPED!!!! |
ahha RAPED either way ahha
hm route 17 huh...yeah we usually take the Thruway but hmm if its gonna cut on Time...not BAD...i gotta check that out. well Tolls arent that much to begin with anyway but i guess any little bit helps. the only thing about smaller routes i would worry about is the speed limit aka if it goes thru small towns the speed limit often goes down to 45...
def cross at Niagara Falls for Toronto, i remember there being TWO entrances for Niagara Falls and at one of them, the guards never fail to be assholes for some reason. isn't the Montreal entrance in Vermont or something, totally different! yes for some reason they seem more strict at the Montreal entrance - once we got there at 2am and they almost grilled us for 1/2 an hour no joke. guess they had nothing better to do
yeah much better to drive madd early in the morning or LATE LATE at night and dont forget to stop at the US side DUTY FREE for Marlboros cuz they dont sell it on the Canadian side going back...lol
anyway thanks for all the tips, kelly!

I don't know what it's like passing the border patrols for Montreal. But in Niagara Falls, it's really depends on which place are you coming through. I think there are three borders around Niagara Falls region. Lewiston, NY, Niagara Falls, NY/ON, and Fort Erie, ON. My favorite place is Lewiston, NY. They have a place for changing money and I always have shorter time to pass then other two places. My worst place is Port Erie, ON. I somehow had been strucked for few hours there. I think they sometimes are stricted about passport and other things like patrols for Montreal. Also, Greyhound from Buffalo to Toronto always pass Port Erie, ON section. I think there are few additional passing place/border around Niagara Falls region. But they are only for people who have Canpass. (I don't know what this is for)
Although I don't expect too much on it(this has been on and off for long time), The ferry from Rochester, NY to Toronto, ON will be operated during the summer.

hhehe no problem girl...
route 17 doesn't change speed limits the entire way, so you are good to go....if you want the directions lemme know I will send them
I was referring the the montreal exit at the end of route 87 (Near PLattsburg, NY) ...I friggin hate it!!
I have had a problem at every border in the Buffalo/NF area...I have tried everyone at least 20-30 times LOL....I think it just depends on the person you get at the gates LOL
Speaking of all this Canada...TORONTO TOMORROW BITCHESSS!!! Yeye Tiesto extended set!!! wooooo The TA meetup at this time from nyc, toronto, detroit, north carolina, across the seas, is amazing right now...what a party this will be!!
