I thought Picotto was much better than Liebing at Space especially after Liebing threw down that horrible track that sounded like a hurd of galloping horses....or maybe that was just a massive train wreck and I was really fucked up. Anyways He had a hard time recovering from that and his set didn't do much for me. Picotto > Liebing @ Space IMO.

i've seen picotto in nyc, in miami, in canada and overseas. he can be good, he can be bad. he plays techno but i've even heard him spin house. sometimes he's hard and other times he's just...DEEP.

i dont give two shits what he does in his personal life because we are talking about him as a DJ.

the simple answer here is that you have to go and see him to decide for yourself. download some recent sets, have a listen to his tracks and see if you like the style of music you hear. then go check him out and make your OWN INFORMED OPINION. you cannot listen to what other people think, it's all a matter of personal preference. be an individual and discover what your taste is without the influence of other people's opinions.

my OWN opinion is that he is worth seeing whether you end up liking him or not. he can do some really cool stuff and his style isn't easily reproduced. i think he's pretty unique. and i dig his headphones.

but seriously, go find out on your own. life is all about discovery.

I've seen Picotto 3 times. One time it was insane. He was scratching just a little bit, but it actually fit into what he was doing. It was like scratchie scratchie BOOM, he would drop this hard ass bassline. It was wild and I was definitely feeling it.

Another time it sounded just like wall to wall noise unfiltered. It was a little too much for me. But the third time he mixed in a bunch of genres while still focusing on his techno sound. This time it was at Avalon and I watched him behind the glass and he was really working everything. He wasn't just hitting on the blondes and sipping Corona's like some other DJ's (insert Tall Paul) while his premade CD was spinning.

So definitely check it out, you never know. And it's gonna be at Crobar so that just adds another flavor to it.

or maybe you just don't like the type of techno that liebing plays
Anyways He had a hard time recovering from that and his set didn't do much for me. Picotto > Liebing @ Space IMO.
It all comes down to personal preference. I hate Picotto at Space and after seeing him at Guv at the end of June, I really think that he is boring as heck. He came on after Dave Clarke and the vibe died that instant. I figured he might be somewhat progressive, so I went to the skybar for a bit and came back 30 mins later. He still hadn't picked up and it was just as boring as before. After hanging around for another 20-30 mins, I left, since the lack of substance in his set killed me.

I guess I don't get the 'deep' part of Picotto, maybe I am too dull to understand 'intelligent/ deep' music, but I much rather listen to Pascal FEOS or Ritchie for a bit, since it is actually fun, rather than torture myself with another Picotto set.

I was THE biggest Picotto fan around for a LONG time, but honestly, I think he's lost it. Personal opinions aside, I would still appreciate a decent Picotto set if he played one, but he hasn't played a decent set in Toronto the last few times he was here. In fact, they went down as probably some of the WORST sets I've EVER heard over the past 14 yrs of clubbing. He's consistently killed the vibe of any DJ who played ahead of him. Last yr he even dropped "Call on Me" and "Flashdance" during his set, and I'm talking the original mixes. And as if that set wasn't bad enough, his last one here (where rubyriva & Drizzt81 were with me), it was even worse. 1-1/2 hrs of droning beats, people leaving the room, begging for pillows to sleep on, and demanding a refund for their already-free ticket. Unbelievable.

I'm not saying no one will like his music. I will just fondly remember the Mauro of yesteryears....

I have enjoyed most of the picotto sets I have heard, not all. his meganite one (not sure of date i think its the one previously mentioned)is pretty good, and i really appreciate the deep/dark/funky side of techno that he plays, I havent really heard other stuff like that. He seems to be inconsistent as a dj and as a producer, I like most of his productions, but again not all. I do think he has lost some talent though, I just remembered a gatecrasher set from 2002 WOW, but hasnt been that good since then IMO.

listen to DJ Montana's remix of lizard

his set @ Avalon a couple months ago was OK, it was boring some of the time but overall wasn't bad.
