The clubbing scene is crap, I bet it's much worse than NY or Chicago, and even Atlanta (yes I said it) they get much more "quality" events unlike here when we get the same people every two or three months (e.g. Kleinenberg, Fanciulli, Deep Dish) I personally tend to get bored seeing the same guys every so often
and don't even get me started with our residents... if a guy is not playing at a given club then it's most likely he's playing at a different club that night. We probably have about 6 or 7 guys that are residents in every fucking club, what kinda shit is that??? Don't tell me we don't have enough good DJs, and even if that was the case isn't anyone else from out of state brought to be a resident here.
Let's face nightlife here sucks, we tend to run out of options because the parties are always the same (same residents = same music every night) PLus there are no underground parties like in Europe, those people who try to bring us something different are brought down in a matter or weeks if not days because of lack of support by clubs and by party goers
So don't tell me we have a great scene here in Miami, could it be much worse? probably, but it still is really bad |
All you hear is the same music in Miami?
You are simply not trying hard enough to look for whatever you like. What kind of music do you like?
If you like techno, Stryke is holding down a great weekly residency @ Nocturnal. Additionally, my boy just threw a great techno party last night at I/O Lounge and the turnout was awesome - wicked, wicked minimal techno and acid all night long. He's one of the people that is pushing for a change. He has a passion for techno and he makes things happen. He doesn't whine about how Miami sucks. Is it easy to throw a successful party and get people to come? HELL NO! No one ever said it was easy. But nothing in life that's worth it ever is.
You like house? Well, there's about 180 different styles of house music being spun throughout Miami. Expand your horizons. You say you get tired of hearing the same guys at Space. That's fine, but no one ever said Space was the only game in town. Go elsewhere. There are other events happening in Miami. Go to BLUE, the Chesterfield, the Whitelaw Hotel, etc.... Those are all places that have good weekly events going on.
If you like trance, as already mentioned, you have the big name DJs coming in quarterly. But seriously, with trance, local talent is where it's at, anyway. How many times has Edgar V spanked the headliner DJ? Too many to count. We have Groove Eric's Tuesday night residency @ BLUE and, every now and again, a great Friday party that Koky throws. Koky has the passion for it and he makes it happen. It's that simple. Aside from that, if you wanna hear great trance, all you need to do is go to one of the TA house parties.
And you're right, this is not Europe. This is Miami - home of where every girl shaves their legs (unlike some places in Europe). They are different. You cannot compare.
Miami's nightlife, does not, in any way, suck.
