It really does come down to you being a person first and a DJ second. People are more apt to book you if they know you, so supporting your scene is crucial. When we book the small shows we throw, we book the guys that take time to support us and not the guys who show up before their set and leave immediately after.
My first residency came about from an open decks night at some nightclub. I got experience, met people, and eventually scored more club gigs. Its cool to go out to the clubs now and see the people I met so long ago running stuff now. They remember my name and introduce me to influential people and things have been going well since.
