Demo Cds will do jack shit, Most people throw em out or use em as something to laugh at with the dj they did sign up with. The music industry is an extremly neponistic buisness it all depends who you know. I was sending out demos for months the first time i started trying to get gigs but it got me no where. Once i started talking to the djs and the people that were important in the scene allready such as the promoters ect i started getting gigs. Usually without even a demo.

Theirs too much shit out their right now and even though you may be the best dj out their that aint going to mean shit cuz theirs you with the killer technical skill , dj wet behind the ears with allright technical skill and Dj bought the promoter a drink all applyin for the same gig. Who do you think is going to get it, most promoters wont know jack shit what good mixing is and so long as your not completly horrible they wont know the difference between good stuff and complete crap. And the first person to come to mind when they are putting together an event is the guy that they hung out with

Im not saying you have to go and sing love songs to em, just ask for their msn or contact info talk about anything sept the fact that you are a dj looking for a gig. Then once your his freind casually bring it up and say that you are looking for gigs.

Its balls but its true you will get alot farther in this buisness depeding on who you know as oposed to how good you are.

Id say the most important part is being yourself as a PERSON.

If your running around saying "im the best, listen and book me" your not going to get anywhere. The average DJ take 7 years to make it, "making" refers to local residency at a bigger club. So no rushing.

Shake hands, be the honest person you are and LOVE those around you. Everything is so competitive, but if your out there to have fun thats what the importnat part (and what others will see is in you).

If that fails, you can sleep with the promoters girl and force her to get you gigs or you'll tell....now where did she go

It really does come down to you being a person first and a DJ second. People are more apt to book you if they know you, so supporting your scene is crucial. When we book the small shows we throw, we book the guys that take time to support us and not the guys who show up before their set and leave immediately after.

My first residency came about from an open decks night at some nightclub. I got experience, met people, and eventually scored more club gigs. Its cool to go out to the clubs now and see the people I met so long ago running stuff now. They remember my name and introduce me to influential people and things have been going well since.
