ok... heres my view on things

the warez scene has been operating for close to 20 years, with the only busts being when someone narced someone else. dod alone has been around for over 10 years. now the reason dod and the dvd rippers is because the losses in each industry is in the BILLIONS of dollars, and they've been under heavy pressure from the companies in those industries. that and you have to realize just what their distribution sites do. the typical site is on a 100mbit/sec connection. most sites do not just stick to warez, but also iso, divx, console. so there you have a LOT of fucking traffic going in AND out of that computer. multiply that by maybe 15+ sites that got busted, and your talking about a *LOT* of money in bandwidth. hell i watched our traffic graphs at rit.edu over the last few days. we went from 145mbit/sec of traffic, down to about 80mbit/sec in the last 2 days.

now about mp3s. the cost per song is much less than cost per software/movie title. plus theres the fact that such programs as audiogalaxy and morpheus exist. this makes it *MUCH* easier for the most retarded end-user to download an mp3. so theres increased distribution. and lets say that someone was running an mp3 release site... its still not going to lay a FINGER on a warez site.

plus theres the fact that its much harder to take the copy protection out of software than it is to rip a cd.

so anyways, i feel the increased ease of distribution of mp3s plus the fact that they arent copy protected, will ensure that the mp3 scene stays VERY strong for a long time to come.

that's what i heard....

we share...we don't sell.....but i think they'll be after us too soon, but not to worry cos it aint gonna stop us from sharing our stuff...i mean ppl will always rip vinyl and cd's and easily share mp3's....

The title of the tread is a little misleading. If you are referring to people who listen to trance as a trance group, they wont be busted. If you are talking about people who distribute and pirated copyright software and music, then yes.

Why is there always such a huge fuss about things like this. It happens regularly. Nothing to panic about....unless you pirate stuff.

Correct me if I'm wrong here,

But having MP3's of copywrited songs is NOT illegal provided you delete the said MP3 within 24 hours of downloading it.

That being said, I really don't understand how Napster, which provided a perfectly ligitimate service, was shut down. One should be able to exchange files as he or she pleases provided they delete said MP3 within 24 hours. The 'illegal' activity is commited by Napsters users, not by Napster itself.

I'm willing to bet that the only reason that Napster lost it's court cases is because the industry is rich and Napster is poor. Money talks - OJ proved this theory correct.

It was shutdown cuz of metalica...

And I know ripping mp3's is easy but someday some one will make a protection and the FBI will come after the rippers...

Why do you think FutureTraxx is closed? they have said that FBI are cracking sites right now and its not safe...
