as Neo mentioned, i missed some parts from the book, for instance the letter gandalf left for frodo when he is on hiw way to meet strider (in the book when he recieve this letter, you get a feeling that it might be the false strider) and if they first was going to have tom bombadill in the movie, they should have given him a bigger part

i didnt expect to see boromir die in this movie, and i didnt expect to see that mp and sam were so much involved as they are in the movie

one thing that i think was funny was the creation of the leader for uruk-hai; "Lurtz". this was well done, if you also think of that boromir had to die sometime (if not in this movie, very early in the second one) and when they first had created lurtz, why couldnt he/she/it be the one to kill boromir =P

but otherwise the movie was EXCELLENT
if i had seen this thread the 19th of December, I would have posted then, but i didnt see it until now.

im really looking forward to august when the dvd will be released, and an unedited version which lasts for 4 hours =P
its too good to be true ! ;D

greetZ and have phun

merry xMAS btw!!!!

this movie was SOOOOOOOOOOOOO GOOD!!!!! the plot, the setting and everything else was just magnificent. it was everything i thought it would be. the visuals just add to the eye candy. WOW!! this movie is easily the most outstanding flick of 2001 in my opinion. i got chills watching this movie. those ring-wraiths and that all those beasts were just horrifying. this movie scared me more than any other recent horror flicks COMBINED. damn this was such a treat. anyone who haven't seen it should go NOW.

can't wait for the next two.

btw did anyone see the trailor for star wars??? talk about "HOLY SHIT!!!"...that was it...can't wait for that one either.

i saw the movie 2 days ago and i came out of the cinema stunned.. OMG WHAT a BRILLIANT movie.. i was everything i hoped it to be and more.. i had very high expectations and they all came true.. the movie had just the right speed (some parts from the book were left or changed but that was very understandble!!)..
maybe the best thing peter jackson was able to do was to let the power of the ring be seen!! the voices you hear when the camera is zoomed in and the reaction from the other players when the are near the ring are VERY good!! also the Nine are quit scary, and the landscapes are all beautiful! and ofcourse excellent casting (i thought that elrond was quit good casted by the way!!).. a QUALITY movie .. go and see it if you haven't already

i guess i'm the only person here who didn't like the movie.... the special effects were great, but i really cannot get into all that fantasy sh!t. The Matrix is about as far into fantasy tekkie movies as i'll get. I can't stand the D&D stuff, etc..... I had to read the entire trilogy in high school, and really didn't find J.R. Tolkien's books that fascinating. I can see where you guys are coming from, just not my cup of tea. The Hobbit was my least favorite BTW.....

Anyways, on the subject of movies, there is only crap out right now... don't waste your time seeing Spy Games or Shallow Hal either - those utterly sucked.

Otherwise, Merry Christmas!

I thought it was very well done! IT met almost all of my extremely high expectations They left out the parts of the book they should have I thought except I wanted to see Tom Bombadil, or some wolves. I thought they should have done some more with Lorien though that was my favorite portion of the book and they kinda skipped over some things, I guess it was to make the movie shorter. The special effects were amazing though, I cant wait for the next ones!!!

HappyHappy Allright....Here goes...

I already got the chance to see the movie twice, and will be seeing it again tomorrow. Let me start off by saying that I read the trilogy twice. Now about the movie. I have VERY high expectations for this movie since I though that nothing short of spectacular would be able to translate Tolkein's world into a movie. The special effects, the decor and generally how they built the movie was simply amazing. The scene with the Barlog of Moria was incredible, and the fighting was great too. I also loved how they showed Gandalf and Saruman's confrontations. What I didnt like is how much of the plot they cut. I understand that there is no way that every small detail could have been incorporated into the movie but there were some things I missed. For example Tom/Barrows, Gandalf's letter, the whole Lorien scene was way too short, etc.

Overall I think it was a good movie (could have been a little better), and I expect the second and the third to be even better.

also, in the book, the sword that was cut in half during the opening scene's gigantic battle was reforged for strider's use on his quest. in the movie there was a scene with strider and the sword while they were in rivendale but it would have been cool if they had fixed it and he could have taken it to battle.

verminator, are you sure there will be a 4 hour unedited version on the DVD when it comes out? that will be awsome!!! i wonder what scenes will make it in those parts.

Some other things that they changed in the movie... The actuall history of the ring. It wasnt Isildur killing the Dark Lord. In the books it was actually Gil-Galad and Elendil (the kings of men and elves) who went together to battle the Dark Lord. They killed him but both died in the effort. As far as I remember Elendil (Isildur's father) cut the ring and that's why the sword shattered, then Isildur took the ring. Also they only showed how Galadriel gave her gift to Frodo, while she actually gave a gift to each member of the company. Also I noticed that as the company travelled from place to place it seemed that middle-earth is about 2 squared miles. For examples when they went from Moria to Lorien it took them I think around 30 seconds to get there. I would have liked it more if they showed somehow the length of the journey and how hard it was.

These are all little things, but in my opinion its all the little details that count... Just my 2 cents

thats exactly what i thought, i think thats the biggest downfall... heres what i said in my first post:

"i feel like the movie made it seem as if everything was near by, it didnt make a good feeling of how far their journey had taken them... for example, it looked as if bree was next door to the shire and like wise with rivendale but in actuallity it was a couple days of traveling for each... it was like that for every place they went to, i think they should've had more shots of them traveling in between places or keep as is but say how many days had passed. there was so much action in this movie it needed some more time in between for you to digest everything. also they could've shown a map as segways to show where they were at, i bet anyone who hadnt read the book had no idea where isengaurd was. but then agian how can you complain at the best movie you've ever seen..."

dont get me wrong i love the movie, and im dying to see the new ones... there was a cool article in Wired magazine written about LOTR it had this part about "Purists vs. Revesionists", i'm a purist but it was cool to see some of the revesionists' points.

i've seen all the "making of" i can... actually there was a really cool one on National Geographic, it focused more on Tolkien himself and the influences around him that probably aided him in writting the book (like him fighting in WW1 and his fascination with languauges and scandanavian lore).

Man, I drove 30 minutes away today in the snow to see this flick on an imax screen. Due to the amount of snow we got (almost a foot) they closed the theater. Why didn't they say that on their phone service?! Ahhh! Sucks! Hopefully I can catch it on wednesday.

Peace,
Steve
