i should mention that you should support the talented locals and not just some average joe who think they can mix. come out to the clubs/lounges, hear what they play, how they mix. if you feel their tunes and their mixing, come out again.

Thnx Mark, it all starts and ends right there...well done.
In the past year i have witnessed some of our local DJs blow the big name DJs away!!! But its sad even thow the quality of sets have been great , both technically speaking and track list wise....the venue is not even half full!!

boys and girls, tranceaddicts of all ages...

i was browsing through the threads and i ran into this one. "how nice" i thought to myself, "finally i found a thread which covers the most important topic to me, how to bring toronto's scene to vancouver".

I read the replies and as i dug deeper into the threads i realized where our problem truly lies. This problem has nothing to do with longer hours or a big enough venue.

The fact of the matter is that Trance as a genre is not nearly big enough here as it is in toronto. Thus, it is not economically wise for promoters and club owners to continually host local talent, relatively unkown dj's, or underground acts. We only get the bigger names once in a while because they are the most profitable.

What we need to do, as a community of "trance addicts",is not to dwell on the impossible task of getting city hall to approve longer hours, or beg the big names to come here more often. What we need to do is promote TRANCE and HOUSE as respective genre's, not promote individual nights or dj's.

Some of you might be startled at what i just said "not promote individual nights or dj's". But its true. Without a solid foundation we cannot build upon it. Trance must be played on more radio stations, more TV channels; it must be talked about more on sites just like this, and it must be brought forth to newer faces and greater audiences. Only after this can we expect packed nights at plush and longer hours.

thats it for me...agree with it or dont, its up to you...but the bottom line is we need to bring the popularity of trance up to that of "hip hop & top40" for promoters to pay attention. thats just capitalism for you.

exactly, which is why trance does so well out in europe, it's a part of their life out there, they even have it on their radio stations reaching a larger mass of people, even when i was in Madrid, this one music store I was in had half of it's space dedicated to edm !!
I just came back from florida, and I was listening to their top 40 or whatever with ryan seacrest, and their number one song was this techy house song that I can't remember the name of right now, but the reason why it did so well they said, was cuz they changed it to the instrumental version! that tells you right there how people respond to edm and such !

Yes. I agree, but, how do you promote trance as a genre, when you got nowhere to go hear it? That's why you have to start by promoting individual nights, get the word out and start a consistent trance night in a well known club.

First step. Let's not mention Plush again, cause obviously we are comparing venues to that of Plush, but that's not gonna happen... to get Plush playing trance regularly, NO WAY.

Start out small, individual nights, smaller venues, local DJ's.

Inevitably you'll get your followers of those individual nights then it's time to move onto the bigger venues, as long as you individual nights are successful enough so hat you're not going into a new venue from scratch and no one's heard of your parties.

When you've got the proper venue to host a night, then you can start bringing in DJ's from other places, the following should be strong enough at this point where you're not marketing to certain people anymore just because it's a big name DJ in town.

All in all, you're still looking at possibly a good 2 years before a good consistent Trance night gets recognition in this town. All depending of course, but realistically, if you wanna please the trance masses, you gotta put in your time.

the sad part is that we DID have a trance night with a regular following. too bad all the hard work that went into it was ruined by something really stupid
