The discussion about sounding the same everytime is such a non discussion i.m.o. Icone , I did not hear many previous tracks but what I do know is that all key producers in the trance scene have a very recognisable sound (all the productions from M.I.K.E pretty much sound the same even when he uses a different alias).
And yes in trance it is pretty much all about the same structure , we just can not really get around that. Build up-break-lead annoys me too sometimes. But at the end of the day, we do not curse big bands for having their own sound, or big artists in different genres. So Icone just do your thing.
And let us please just evaluate the tracks and not turn it into a different topic.
Cheers!

Hey Icone, I liked both those tracks a lot. Beautiful melodies and good percussion. I really like your music, keep up the good work.

Wim, You asked for critics, you got them.
Thats what we think about the sounds.
I agree with alex that your melodies are ussally kick-ass banging.
But redesign the sounds man.
About the plucks. Make them thicker, use a high modulation freqenecy phaser, use flagers... There are tons of things you can do.
Just try them. You insist on keeping the same sound.
Here we go again:
Electronic Music Producers constantly need to use new sounds... why?
Rock/Live musicians mostly use their guitars & drums also ... nobody's nagging about that ...
I can understand one hangs onto a certain combination once it's working ... don't fix it, if it ain't broken.
Still when some new sound comes along (for example , Benny Benassi)it really stands out in the crowd.
Now onto the songs,
"The Clearing"
The melody seems catchy to me, contrary to what others seem to think , solid stuff... hell ... i'd buy it!
"The Touch of Summer"
Normally I really like this kind of tracks (e.g.: Y-Traxx- Mystery Land) ... this one is not in the same league (sound-feel-like) as the example given.
To get the summerfeel it should sound more relaxed imo.

maybe because rock is defined by specific types of instruments, whereas trance is defined by an ambiance which can be created by a great variety of electronic instruments.
no offense to rock listeners

Why? Cuz we can.
Of course you CAN, though it's not that you MUST. Especially not when you feel the need to tell somebody else to change, whereas the person himself feels good about what he's doing. I honestly don't think these are helpful and constructive criticisms anybody on these forums is looking for. I personally would NEVER blame someone for establishing and keeping onto his sound. That's what I like about trance music - you can identify yourself with it.
Of course I use some presets every now and then... Often it is to save time (with deadlines e.g.), or to use a reminiscent sound that keeps coming back. Looking at everyone that has been an example for me in trance music, I thought it was common sense
Anywayz, enough blabbering about this I feel. No offence to anyone from my side on this as well. Just wanted to say thanks to all who commented and gave me some good pointers
Cheers,
Wim
PS: Jay, nothing on the label side yet... Still waiting for some feedback.
