The Dutch pioneer did not disappoint. During an elaborate four-hour set, taking 10,000 devoted fans on an audio-visual tour of the world, Tiesto set out his intentions: to let America know he was coming and bringing something that would blow their minds.
With production design that would flatter any A-list rock band, Tiesto was housed in a custom-made booth, surrounded by LED monitors and a huge LED screen that created an unending visual accompaniment to his euphoric set.
But this was to be no ordinary DJ gig, as the 'In Concert' shows have already proven in Europe. The show continued to build, transporting the audience around the world on a musical voyage with various spectacular performers taking to the stage.
As the journey wound its way to South America, Samba girls danced to drum-heavy musical accompaniment. Acrobats, dancers and hand balancers wowed the audience with stunning aerobic feats as the odyssey continued through the Middle East and Asia. A four-piece drum troupe completed the spectacle.
For those in attendance, whether amongst the vast sweaty masses on the Main floor, or viewing from the slightly more relaxed vantage point of the Arena's seats, there could be no doubt that what they were witnessing was truly historic.
Tiesto should be applauded for taking such risks and proving that Dance music can provide an exhilarating show at a traditional venue, so long as the DJ takes the time and spends the money to produce a show such as this. |
