the track is about 13 mins long with a looonnnnngggg build up...its done pretty well, but still, i think the breakdown has to be over a minuete long

See, a good build-up is like sex. With enough tension building and building, when it finally peaks out and hits in a rush of energy, the results can be quite intense. However, prolong it for too long, and you end up loosing interest in the climax ever hitting, sometimes to the point you have no energy left when it does.

I don't mind long breakdowns/builds, just when they are abused in DJ sets where every bloody song is like that, killing momentum every 7-10 minutes.

Yeah im with you on this one - too many DJs dont know when to stop looping over the breakdowns. Predictable?
