I've always found this works well for me. If I'm going to be doing a lot of drinking, always at some point in the night, I'll start having vodka waters, with a lemon. The nice thing is you'll still be drinking, and you'll be rehydrating yourself so you don't feel like complete shit the day after. Chase your shots with that, chase your beers with that, chase your chasers with that, it really helps keep you drunk and feeling better the next day. If you start chugging water exclusively at the the end of the night, you still tend to feel pretty shitty. This at least keeps you drinking some water throughout the night, which is a lot easier to do than tyring to have 1 or 2 litres all at once.
Oh, and if you prefer, you can use a different liquor, but I like vodka.
