it's stuff like Skitz Mix, Gatecrasher etc. THat's made by artists like DJ DEAN etc. that's commercial.

thank god none of these assholes make it into the top 250 mix.

jesus.. i'd hang myself

How is Gatecrasher any more commercial than Armin? The guy gave away tickets for his show with a double pack of batteries. I don't think it'll get much more commercial than that.

no, i mean the stupid freaking CDs u can buy in Australia... available at car service stations etc.

u just pick it up, and listen to it. Great if u know nothing about the scene. Then after a while, u get sick of the same crap , and stop listening to trance.

Just like Skitz Mix, etc. etc.

I'm refering to commercial/underground styles of music. Usually, u listen to a commercial track, u can tell straight away, it's commercial...

LOL. So true! Last I met some girl who is totally into classic music and jazz and all. She even teaches this genres to others so her knowledge of EDM was close to 'nothing'. I then told her that I regularly visit raves and that I am completely into trance and such. But when she asked if I do drugs and I told her no, she completely fell out of the sky

Prejudice *sigh*

I highly disagree. "Underground" and "Popular" are just statuses given to music in their current state. If a track blows up because the general public loves it, dj's play out the song, and a major label backs it up then it would be considered popular on a massive scale. But let's say this particular artist XYZ did not submit the track to a label or a dj to play out in his/her sets. Instead he/she decided to play out the song themselves in a club. The same track is still well received but on a smaller level, in other words -underground.

There is no way in hell that trance is "underground" anymore. Underground implies that it is unknown and inaccessible, which it certainly is not.

The internet has changed the music scene forever, and it means that anyone with an internet connection can download and listen to trance music, whether they live in Amsterdam or Vladivostok.

There are definitely certain artists and sub-genres that are lesser known (such as psytrance), but it isn't underground.

So since Internet made everything accessible, and underground music has to be inacessible, there's no more underground music of any kind, at all?

No, no, no.

I'm not saying there is no underground music, I'm just saying that trance is not underground - at least the uplifting / melodic trance played by PVD, Ferry, Tiesto etc isn't.

I think it all depends on the people you ask and the area you live in. For example, here in NYC you have alot of world famous clubs and such but alot of people still hear trance or house or any other form of electronic music and says "damn, i hate that techno bullshit". I was sitting in class the other day listening to my friends mp3 player before our prof came in and pole folder was playing and the girl next to me was like oh you guys like techo and stuff? I'm like yeah but this isn't techno, she's like really?! what is it?? i wasn't really suprised or anything but that shows that to alot of people this is as remote as jazz or something.

also, in alot of people who hit up clubs around here don't know shit about the music but just go to get drunk and dance and try to get girls. they never say something like "omfg i've always wanted to hear this song in a club with a kick ass sound system". y'know what I mean?

So it could be said that trance or EDM is more appealing to people nowdays but it doesn't mean they know shit about it.

Kinda like Rap, alot of people like the radio shit but if you ask them who De La Soul were they'd say " De La Soul, is that some 70's soul group?"

Trance was the European POP music once upon a time.
Since Europe can not produce such big POP hits as USA, they just take anything related to dance music and abuse it on the radio and TV till you cant take it anymore. Thats European POP music for me once it happens.
I dont know if that ended tho'... i am not up with the updates.
