If only Labor could come with a leader with some spine, they would already be in government by now. Unfortunately, there really doesn't seem to be a strong alternative to Howard at the moment, and voters are inclined to support a leader that they know and trust (i have no idea why anyone would trust him )

Lets be honest though, a large proportion of Australian voters are not well versed on different policies, and are strongly influenced by government rhetoric and the media. If little Johnny tells them that the economy is great shape and they will be better off under a Liberal government, a large proportion of people will snap that up and vote accordingly because they only seem to vote with their back pocket in mind. However, as many people have already said, at what cost?. Fundamental rights and privilidges that previous generations fought so hard to obtain are being stripped away from us.




The Good

• Strong leadership, especially during times of crisis like 9/11, Bali Bombings, the Boxing Day Tsunami etc
  
• Built strong relationships with many international leaders
  
• GST, despite the promises to "never, ever" implement it
  
• Economic performance
  
  

I think a lot on here don't have a mortgage nor worry about rising interest rates. When/If you do, you will agree that you see this all on a very different level.

When you have to always consider that rates are always on the rise, with inflation creeping slowly (hence the rising interest rate) and out of control petrol prices with no sign of slowing or any relief (which clearly there can be) it's difficult to find one nice thing to say about our so called "democratic" John Howard government.

the negatives of his leadership ability far outway the positives. Effective leadership usually tries to balance the tide. He has not done that whatsoever focusing too heavily on the economy and missing out on other important matters such as workplace, health, education, family etc.

good and well to be a debt free nation but what has that ever done for you personally?

Nothing....just as I thought.

My belief is simple....he's a wanker. and so is his right hand man...that little cunning prick. We're doomed if he were to ever take over the top job. Australia will be run like a Telstra.
