Well maybe stuff like Enigma, some Delerium, some Moby, some more modern stuff like Ulrich Schnauss and Royksopp (like melodic ambient in a sense) isn't exactly "trance" music per say but definitely puts you in a trance like state after listening to it because of it's ethereal quality that takes your mind away from reality. In a sense it has the same quality that a lot of trance does. I listened to artists like Enigma and Delerium before I was really into trance, but I feel trance music was the logical progression for me when looking for music that had some similar qualities to those artists, just a lot more uplifting and energetic than some of those artists are.
