I'm not denying we're a primarily Christian country...but those numbers are showing that the Christian population is declining significantly. Immigrants make up a very important part of this country and just because they are a minority doesn't mean that they shouldn't be taken into consideration.

Considering you support the conservative agenda, I thought you would understand what it's like to be a minority

However, I have to disagree on your last point. Coming to this country does not mean people must abide by Christian holidays and practices! This isn't communist russia.

With respect to corporate christmas campaigns, I see nothing wrong with tailoring the political correctiveness to suit the area. Ie "holiday" lingo used in Toronto, Christmas used in more Christian areas.

Point of order..... communist russia was officially athiest.

I think that people, like yourself, whom beleive the term Christmas may be offensive fail to recognize that Christmas is very much a secular holiday as well as a religious one. Much as marriage is an institution of religion and the state so is Christmas (in as much as it is a statutory holiday). The non-christian celebrate the secular holiday of Christmas. Really, is anyone offended by the term Christmas or are you simply concerned that someone somewhere someday may be upset?

I don't think the term Christmas is OFFENSIVE to anyone.

I just think there is nothing wrong with, in a city such as Toronto which is so multicultural, keeping things more neutral.

"Come to Zellers for all your Holiday needs: from gifts to decorations to warm boots for the walk to the polls on election day!"

I think December has just become less defined by religion, and more about being with family, exchanges gifts, and having a nice dinner - however your family might do it. A time off in early Winter, as opposed to a religious event. I enjoy celebrating the Holidays... not Christmas.

I especially like the "Brainwashing tomorrow's youth" stuff... everything is social engineering eh Jay? Just think how messed up the children will be from years of Happy Holidays! instead of Merry Christmas!

If they want to keep things "neutral" then they shouldnt have anything at all.

How bland that would be!

No no how bout instead of making everything bland, we celebrate what TRUE multiculturalism is supposed to be. A celebration of ALL cultures. Not the canadian version which is to pretend that no culture exists in order not to offend anyone.

Its obviously working since most people here are probably unaware of what its like to truely celebrate christmas at school or have store staff wish them a merry christmas.

I think more importantly, we should be fair. So until everyone starts celebrating Hunnakah and Rosh Hashana (sp) why should we all be creating a big hooplah over Christmas.

Because christmas is the majority and is a founding tradition in our country. Thats why.

If people who came here werent prepared to accept that. They shouldnt have come here.
