just an idea, i read on the djmag website about Superchumbo when he turned up to play a gig and only 1 TT was workin, so he had to play all his set usin 1 TT and a sampler (soundbite i think).

could be a good future challenge for anyone way a sampler, to see if you could play a set usin only 1 TT , a mixer & a sampler?

lol, I already had EXACTLY that in mind for a future challenge

I did a half hour mix like for a laugh that a little while ago, failed to record it though... went ok, apart from the bit where I knocked the wrong button and stopped the sampler - plunging my bedroom into silence

a recent gig i had, i was using serato, but since i wasn't the one to set it up, something fucked up and only one TT was working. luckily, in serato u can switch the inputs and play off one TT, but it made for quite a nerve-wracking experience....especially with people looking on and wondering how the hell i was mixing with only one turntable.

moral: do a sound check before u start.

In those situations you wanna purposefully do a little obvious mess up, just to prove to the crowd that you're no poser

i also don't have a proper soundsystem at the moment! that's why i also mix most of the time hearing the cued and the master! it helps since with the one channel method i can hardly hear the bass in the master because my monitors are so cheap!

NVM mate, I"m still learning a lot as well...

Basically, i'm using a shitty 5.1 channel sound system to monitor my sound with, at home.

because they don't give out properly balanced sound, it can be harder for me to mix as a DJ, because i don't get the HARD bass, that proper monitors can deliver to help me beatmatch. It also causes problems EQuilizing, because certain frequencies are louder than others. I guess for being at home, it's satisfactory. But I often have to just mix entirely in my headphones.

The rest of my post isn't gonna help u much, but i've included it anyway:
Long way to go before i get proper monitors, so I'm gonna get another 5.1 sub, and use a speaker and sub together as one unit, to deliver Left/Right channels accordingly. THat should help with the sound quality i think.

Only just seen this thread...

When I were a lad... bla bla bla.

Actually when I first started out in the mid 80's there werent that many mixers that had Cross faders or EQ's for that matter. My first mixer had two phono upfaders, one aux and a Mic and the cueing was master or specific channel. One of my decks didn't have a pitch control either.

Cheers
Nem
