definately. At least 9 out of 10 north americans I've ever talked to had never heard of trance, out of the remaining 10%, the majority thought it was something else. As far as i know it's still non-existant in the american market, but it is growing.

Exactly, my only fear is that it could go in the wrong way. Where by it gets trendy in america and then all the pop dance acts cash in and it all goes poo again collapsing on itself.

Let's hope not though!

Besides, I like knowing that my music is kinda rare, and that most people dunno what it is.

So in the States trance is still a major factor then?

No, trance is still minor in the US. The Americans don't realise how far trance was into pop culture in the UK five years ago. What is "popular" for trance in the US is still quite pitiful in the UK.

God I hate this thread...
But being in denial is wrong. I'm not saying trance is dying, no.
You can look at it in different ways.
Trance is not dying, it's evolving, and some of us are too attached to the old stuff.
But if you ask me, like someone said, I believe this is going to trigger people all over the world to really put alot of effort into making things that are quite similiar to the old trance yet just putting some new elements in there.
I mean, even though some might say they don't want the old trance to dissappear, you can't stay in one place all the time. It has to evolve, it has to move on.
HOW it evolves is another thing, and that's up the really big guys and the really underground scene of course.

Indeed.

Trance has been creatively dead since 2003; every major album and production since then has underwhelmed to the point of embarrassment. It is not "evolving" or "changing" or "exploring new ground". With the exception of the psy scene, the genre as a whole is stagnant, self-absorbed, and hollow. Even tech-trance has fizzled, though there are a few embers keeping it alive, like Sam Sharp.

I suppose the "trance is dead" phase is something everyone goes through, but with the slop that passes for trance these days one would think it's self-evident.

As for the rise of house, the sooner, the better. Once the top trance names get bumped down the charts, then jocks that really care about the sound will begin to cater to core fans and produce more seriously.
