Mavericks and Waiamea always produce big waves, but never really anything close to the biggest of the year. As f as paddle in waves, absolutely, but the tow-in winner usually comes out of Jaws, Todos Santos (last year), or so far this year, Australia.

Billabong has a few categories...biggest overall wave, biggest paddle-in wave, monster tube award etc...

Shane Dorian in Tahiti

That's got to be Teahupoo! Those waves are by far the prettiest!

I feel like Mike Parson's wave was alot bigger than Brad Gerlach's.

And my favorite surfing movie is definitely Laird!

beautiful wave with a reef but 3 feet below the water, treacherously dangerous!

i remember the days of falling from the lip on an almost double overhead wave on LBI (on one of the few autumn hurricane days) onto a soft sandbar. That shit hurt badly. could you imagine falling triple overhead on rock hard reef??

We used to go to Belmar but the water was always way colder than 60 and I couldn't feel my feet even with booties on after like 20-30 mins. I'd love to go now but getting up at 6am on the weekend is not an option haha.

i remember surfing in february in a thick 6/5/4 in below 40 degree water. it was brutally painful, and that was obviously with gloves, boots, and a hood. the only way to fully describe the pain is to compare it to being kicked in the balls. however, after a few minutes, the water that gets stuck in the suit warms up and it's not as bad, but every duck dive brings in new water that is almost as brutal as the initial plunge.
