The problem is that the Liberal party FOCUSED on Quebec, and IGNORED the West (and the Atlantic Province for that matter, but then again, EVERYONE ignores the atlantic). Albertan's anger at Quebec can be called jealousy, because basically, it is. They are jealous that for the last 13 years, the Canadian government has pandered to Quebec while voter apathy in Ontario, and a lack of a credible opposition, handed the Liberals 4 straight terms in office.
Quebec and Alberta are essentially fighting for the same things, namely, more power given to the provinces. It seems they don't trust eachother because of Liberal spin-doctoring and babying of Quebec.
I didn't hear any booing during the french parts of Harper's speech, just, as malek said, reserved cheers because the people didn't know what he was saying.
Where the next leader of the Liberal party comes from should NOT matter. It's sad that in a nation that's supposed to be so 'multicultural', we have people worried about whether or not a leader is from Quebec, or Ontario, or Alberta. Guess what people, it doesn't matter! What matters is that they are capable of seeing other points of view and carrying out a competent governing term (or many).
Michael Ignattief will never be PM. Outside of Toronto he isn't very popular with Canadians. Many see him as having spent way too much time in the USA. I could be wrong of course, he IS a pretty smart guy after all.
