Depends on what you consider the "cable" industry to be. One could argue that the satellite companies are competition, and with Bell in the process of launching IPTV over their phone lines, that could be reasonable competition as well.
Personally, I don't have a huge issue with the price of cable going up a few dollars. It hasn't really increased in a few years, yet a considerable number of new stations have been added in the past year or two. They have to be paid for somehow.
Remember.. inflation is about 2-3%. If you have a cable bill of $100 (arguably high, but not unreasonable if you have digital cable with all the stations), that means that the price should be going up $2-3 every year, even without the addition of new stations / services.
