i dont blame video games...

i blame hip hop! LOL

No but seriously.... as was mentioned earlier im sure that the game had something to do with their personality rather than being the sole cause of their actions. Might it have influenced them a bit? Maybe, but if thats the case then a picture of Jacques Villeneuve may have done the same. But youd never hear the idea of indy racing or formula one racing influencing a kids behaviour make news because old middle aged people generally tend to enjoy these sports whereas there is a scare factor with video games because most middle aged people dont play them. The media feeds off of middle america (and middle canada) ignorance. And As sophisticated as toronto people think they are, they are very much middle of the road canadians in every sense of the term.

Im pretty sure racing games didn't make up their entire collection.
I agree with most of you, it's dumb blaming video games when clearly the driver is an adult by 18.

I wouldn't necessarily blame bad parenting for not knowing their kids are racing their cars in the middle of the night, however it is a bad idea to allow them to drive a Mercedez at such a young age. With power comes great responsibility... Good call spiderman's dead grandfather.

Same arguement I used at work.
Two 18 year old guys with a high-end Mercedes...what could go wrong?

Stop this Mercedes bullshit. You can go 140 in a Civic too.

2 Rich kids driving mommy and daddy's stock benzes decide they want to speed thru busy residential areas. Suddenly they are labeled street racers and get thrown into the same category as car enthusiasts.
The media blows it up, Police targets modified cars because of this(even though the cars were stock), and while the're busy ticketing modified cars, people get shot, people get robbed, raped, drunk drivers kill some people, but that's not nearly as important as pulling over a car with an aftermarket exhaust.
You gotta love it

1) You can reach the speeds in a high performance car much faster, without as much effort.

2) The speed sensation is very different in a luxury car than it is in a Civic. Driving at 100kmh in my mom's lexus, feels like I am going 50-60kmh. Wind noise, road vibrations, engine noise are all lowered due to increased sound insulation and smooth drive trains.

right on, thats the basis of it.

i think id be more likely to drive faster in a higher end vehicle than in the chrysler neon, but thats just me.

but this is also in the context of them being young drivers and having that particular car to drive will cause more of a 'show-off' influence.

why is everyone saying "they shouldn't have let them have the benz". regardless of what car it is, you can get up to that speed and race. you've seen it with civics, cavaliers, shit boxes that shouldnt be on the road, nice cars, it really doesnt matter. have an acura integra with a muffler and they will still race and think its souped up. obviously the benz is much faster, but really it doesnt matter what car it is, the kids will go fast with whatever car. in my own city, i've seen people doing at LEAST 160KM/H in a fackin 60KM/H zone! not even lieing, it was fuckin crazy, and it was a shitty cavalier like I have. benz or no benz, they would have still tryed to race whatever car they had their hands on is my point.

stop being so naive. you cant tell me when you were 17, you didnt know someone that booked it around like crazy in a shit car, maybe it was even yourself. the kids are going to do it weither they can hear wind noise or not. i remember in grade 11 my friends friend, he did 180km/h in a pontiac bonneville on a country road. its no fackin benz.

the talk about showing off more, well maybe, but who are they showing off to on a road with no one on it, except his friend and him? also, kids try to show off with a stock integra, just like they would if they have a luxury car. either way they try to show off.

Apples and oranges.
I'm sure you can do 160 in a Corolla 323 too but that's not the point at all.
They did it because they thought they could.
I'm sure if they were in the standard Civic the thought wouldn't have crossed their mind as much as their standard high-end Benz.
Don't get me wrong, I love Benzes but you have to be responsible when driving a couple classes up.

this is the point, at that age, they still arnt responsible when driving ANY car really. they will still do stupid stuff while driving, regardless of what car it is. in winter, how many times do you see kids pulling e-brakes in the snow, facking around. spinning tires and then racing at the lights with someone? all the time! they are young, things like this will always happen when theres young drivers
