Thank you. |
To say 'Sorry they do not make good music' is not a knowledgable statement to impress your opinion on anyone else...
show me where i said you have to like their music...
as I said I like their music, and I think they're quality...
In regards to what I said about Portobello, I meant it's quite an original sound In My Opinion
Thanks for coming, have a nice day

Their remix of 'Beachball' is a brilliant production, really captures the summery feel.
Pretty much everything else is shite though. I really mean that. I just detest the "natural" style of trance they provide us with, it should be considered a different genre altogether, in my view.
'Tracking Treasure Down' is plain awful, their remix of 'No-One On Earth' might just be the most overrated track in trance history, and 'Around You' (Motorcycle) might as well have been a pop-rock ballad. The 4/4 beat is only there so Armin can play on his show.
It makes me wonder how many people who listened to trance during the "good old days" actually like G&D. I mean, I'm really trying not to come across as an elitist. But their style of trance isn't just pushing the boundaries, but it's a complete reversal, a demolition of what trance actually is. It takes the piss. |
Yeah, I agree.
In fact, I think I'm going to start saying "Regressive Trance" instead of McProg or American Progressive, because it's pretty damn accurate.

Your an idiot. How can you tell someone what good music is, music is something that each person can enterpret however they like and take it however they like, which is what is so good about it.
I'm not a fan of a lot of styels of music, but i can still respect that to the fans of that music it is extremely fulfilling.
How about you let people focus on the positives and not come in and focus on the negatives all the time. Go listen to fuckn Trance nation 1999 and leave us to have our posts |
I dunno if you have taken any musical education. There are a lot of theories behind, in any criteria like melodic progression, harmonic progression, emotional expression, etc. And there are other studio technics, history knowledge, producing skills, etc. that can be discussed and commented.
If you just want your post to be a full thread of regressive electronica praising then fine. And that only shows how coarse members of the board has become these years.
I really wish someone that could give convincible proof to show how idiot my comments in this thread is. If that happens, I will surely bend and appreciate one's insight.

ok thats fair enough, but essentially what i said was in the same vein as what you did in your previous post. imo, and a fair few others, G & D are still creating very entertaining music with extremely good "melodic progression, harmonic progression, emotional expression, etc.". granted this isnt present in all their productions but its still something that can be pretty subjective, which is why i didnt agree with you saying it was "not good music".

How do you define their progression being "extremely good" then? 90% of the melody is in major key, ok there's nth wrong with major but the progression is almost repeatedly going thru a perfect cadence or even staying on the I. That is good? And lately their bassline is even more horrid. Just exactly a simple square pulse in low pass. Well that had been good when I was stilling fooling with my red & white nintendo listening to those game music. But regretfullly, the melody in those game music is even more complicated and well spotted than theirs.
