lol...

i once played josh wink - higher state of conciousness... i tweaked the eq a bit so i had a bit of extra hi and mid and a bit less bass (that tracks got dodgy highs at the best of times)... at the time the venue i played at didn't have a decent monitor so i used to mix a bit in my headphones... i looked up to see the bouncer laughing his head off, took my headphones off to an ear piercing screach!! i quickly toned it down a bit, 5 minutes later the manager comes up and says... crowd wants more of what u were doing before, give it all you got

another time the vibrations from the speaker caused my record bag to fall over... onto the record i was cueing up :S

i once forgot to check the position of the crossfader (i have mine off at home) so was bringing in the next track, i was dropping the high's on the previous track while tweaking the high a bit on the next track and thought fark this is smooth ....... and then it was the mids turn :|.......... and then the lows and then i looked down to see what i'd done wrong

taken needle of the record a couple of times...

here's a sample of MAL CHIA'S TRUE ADELAIDE DJ STORIES

after a 6hr set at sugar, by which time i was quite smashed, after mixing out of a track ejected it from the cdj put it in my wallet only to pull the same disc out again and mix it straight back in. funny thing was while i was cueing up i actually thought (a) "wicked - don't have to touch the pitch control"; and (b) "this intro sounds familiar", without actually tweaking to my faux pas until it was too late.

when i was doing closing set at red room on friday's i'd pretty much hang around there all night abusing the tab. one week i took it a little too far and was more-or-less being held up on stage and actually took a tumble over some record bags perched right next to me. somehow, despite my quite obvious inebriation, everyone including the venue manager thought my set was hot leading me to ask myself, "i want what their having"

At the risk of jinxing myself, I haven't seriously fucked up in a long time. (Apart from the slightly off not-quite-a-trainwreck-but-could-easily-become-one mixes that happen to us all.) My first CD players that I used to use at gigs were top loading with no latch or anything, so it was pretty easy to open the wrong side...CD stops... DEAD AIR.

My biggest dramas have happened due to punters. Either from them dancing too close to the booth and bumping into it, causing the needle to jump, or using the booth as somewhere to put a drink and knocking it over, or leaning over drunkenly to say THIS IS SHIT, PLAY SOMETHING I CAN DANCE TO! and knocking the tone arm...
One time this girl was standing right in front of the booth, her eyes about level with the turntable, staring at a record going round and round...mesmerized... then she reached out her hand... and touched it.
Silence.
Glare.
So she let go of the record and off we went again.
Funny in retrospect.

I want an electric fence.
