Pronouncing Dutch names

You can find MP3s with the pronunciation of the Dutch names mentioned in this forum on my website:

http://homepage.mac.com/schuffelen/dureq.html

(just above the three B/W pictures)

Please note that there is no sound in English like Dutch EI/IJ (or Y in Dyk.) It's somewhere between RITE and RATE. If you say 'T(h)ijs' like 'Tice' it has too much of an A-sound - 'Thijs doesn't rhyme with 'Thais.'

UU in 'Van Buuren' is somewhat like EW in DEW.

For more detailed fun with Dutch:

http://homepage.mac.com/schuffelen/dupron.html

Hope this helps you guys,

Dutchman

The reason Pete Tong and a lot of other british and american dj's and mc's pronunce PVD's name like 'dike' is because they are not German. If you listen to anyone Live Set of PVD in Europe or better yet, Germany, you will hear them pronounce it like this:

'Paul Van Dook'. Best examples are from his recent set at Einslive Rocker.

Armins's name is produced Armin Van Buuren (extend the 'u')

Yeah, but it's really hard to describe what "Tijs" is pronounced in Dutch, because as far as I know Englsh doesn't have a letter combination that sounds like the Dutch "ij"...
