What a fun afternoon/evening that was!
Perfect setting to 'get my feet wet'. The night before i was going through my cd's and didn't really feel good about the tracks i had to pick from, so around midnight i hopped in my car and drove to Dundas to reload (no cd burner in T.O.). Got to bed around 5am after plenty of digging and downloading and got back in town around 2:30pm. Leaving roughly an hour to listen to my new tunes, plan a rough tracklist, shower, eat, and get dressed. Fuck. Out of the twelve or so tracks i ended up choosing, only two of them were tracks i actually knew. So needless to say, i wasn't too confident it would go well. Turned out a lot better than i expected! Left a few mixes go too long (thanks for the constructive critisism jon), but i felt i learned alot just from this experience.
The rest of the sets were just wicked. Richard, played a really tight set with lots of techy house tracks. Completely different than the last time i heard him, and i was pleasantly surprised to hear the direction he has taken his sound! Great work, and i would love to get my hands on both of the demo's you've put together recently.
I think Kev played next (i was a little retawded at this point), and like Jon had mentioned, holy commercial Mr. Harcourt!! It was still the usual Iberican/Stereo flavor we are used to hearing from Kev, but he tossed in some mainstream fluff in there and it worked like a charm. The whole room was eating it up.
Ray probebly played (imo), the best selection of tracks out of the five of us. Lots of progressive house, with just the right amount of electro groove had the whole place boppin their heads. I peticularly liked your last mix (before jon took over), sounded just awesome. Great job buddy, i think that was my favourite set of yours to date.
Jon closed things out, and cranked the energy of the room instantly. Holy fuck dude, first time i've seen you throw down a whole, proper set, and i was totally impressed. Total party house. A lot of people were jokin around, calling it 'gay house', but no one can deny you play this sound and craft it SO well. Your eq skills, timing, and track selection were just flawless. Right down to the final track, the whole place was in a frenzy.
Thanks to Steve, Marg, all the dj's, and especially Emma, for drawing such a good group of people to give you a fantastic farewell event. I definately would like to do something like this again in the near future. By then i'll have more then 3 weeks total experience (lol), and hopefully be closer to the level of Ray, Jon, Kev and Rich. You guys were awesome.
