did you watch the same game? |
yes what are you refering to?
I know Benfica fans didn't exactly scream all match, but definitely there was 30 times more support comparing to the league matches. And it seemed blatant Liverpool was going for the draw since the very beggining - no hurries to take goal kicks and set pieces, slow playing tempo, fairly defensive lineup/formation with Gerrard and Crouch on the bench (by the way was Fowler on the pitch, I only noticed it when he was subbed )
Oh, and I forgot to mention it's yet another english defeat in Portugal, getting a bit repetitive eh?
Karagounis was a real key to the win, the game looked like a certain stalemate before he came in, afterwards they won a lot more free kicks and control of the midfield, surprising to see Liverpool not managing to handle that problem.
A 1-0 win is an excellent result that forces Liverpool to not suffer any goals at home, but still things aren't over, far from it. I'd say Benfica are slight favourites now but it can easily go either side.

We had 2 strikers and 2 attacking players on the left and right of midfield... Not many teams go away in Europe with 2 straight-up strikers do they?
Our strikers hardly had a sniff, aside from morientes once, but I think thats down to Benfica being good defensively!
I don't know how you can say we played for a draw though, I honestly never thought you would score at all until that goal. Neither side created anything. I expect us to have a lot more shots on goal at Anfield anyway, good luck, may the best side win (Liverpool of course )
