The difference is that with technology should come innovation. Technology improves upon and adds to already existing technology. Like cars, they are evolving, and so will DJing. The blurring from DJ and producer will become greater and greater, they will be one and the same. To me Sasha is a true artist DJ, some of these other guys look to just be playing tunes out, but not making use of all the technology at their disposel. I think it would be nice to have more artist DJ mixes (conceptual DJ mixes perhaps), and not just a play out of tunes, well thats at least what it seems like to me.

PvD is the only DJ who can get away with mixing a proggy/housey track (let's take that D-Nox & Beckers track he's been hammering as an example) right AFTER a bunch of pumping trance tracks..and then happily return to hands in the air pumping trance. Worst build-up ever
crazy world we live in

Just to clarify, I am talking about this in the context of mix CDs, not neccessarily playing out. I don't think it should be expected that every trance DJ should be an Eddie Halliwell or James Zambiela, or a Sasha for that matter. Just playing out tunes in a club is fine, but perhaps offering something different for a change with mix CDs. Like i said, I didn't see that big of a difference with the tunes on ASOT 2005 to their originals, but maybe there is and I just am not aware of it...

Edit: I don't think every track should be totally different from the original either, but a balance between them. Perhaps a balance between artist or conceptual mix CDs and mix CDs that just focus on the originals or remixes of the track. Just think this would be nice...to truly make use of the technology. If Sasha, and even PvD can do it (esp with the first Politics Of Dancing) then I'm sure more DJs can do it as well...

does that mean we can forget about the 000 series? [ending with 004 - Transparence?]

that's kind of disappointing.

Actually, when I saw him live in chicago last year; I heard a good chunk of tracks from ASOT2005 - i dunno if that was a one time occurance, but it was pretty slick.

+edit+

what was actually kinda cool was that he kept switching; going from a track from "light" to "dark" and back and forth [obviously with some others in there too]. so that kind of made it a different listening experience i suppose.

ULTRA, the company that released it in the USA cut the album short by 3 tracks on CD2 and 2 tracks on CD1.

hopefully they will not do this with '06

why does every hate the fact that mixing it with ableton is dumb?

this mix compilation is going to be released nationwide so what it should sound like is as professional as possible. nothing can beatmatch as well as computer. with cd or vinyl you can go offbeat for 1 kick. its not a matter of laziness, its a matter of market and sounding good. just because hes using ableton doesnt mean it sucks.

another comment i hear alot from people when talkin about armin is 'all his sets sound like ASOT'. what else can you expect from the guy? he plays about 20 songs every week in each episode i assume. how can you keep up with 20 new tracks every week? what else do you want the guy to play? whatever he plays on ASOT is what he likes, and he plays to the audience what he likes. i understand the fact that it might be boring but what can you do? as long as this guy has his radio show, he will sound boring elsewhere to some people. but the radio show itself isnt a bad idea.

He has said in an interview that this is not true.

EDIT - To clarify what I said, he often plays what he likes, but not every track he plays is something that he is into. Like you said, he has a two hour show every week, and he has to fill it up somehow, so he resorts to playing some tracks just because he knows his fans want to hear them.

I wouldn't doubt he did. First time I saw him he played a lot of tracks he played on his recent ASOT shows. Was a fabulous night!!!!

This news doesn't excite me much, and I don't think I'll be buying the CD.
