Well I'll be completely honest here: I didn't actually watch the opening ceremony. It might have been the greatest spectacle known to mankind, or it might have been a great, big pile of poo - I really don't know. All I do know is that Andrew Bolt (and other columnists who think like him) are continually accusing anyone who disagrees with them (or with the policies of the Howard-government) of being "elitist", of being "out-of-touch", or of being somehow contemptuous of the aspirations of "mainstream Australia". By using exactly the same arguments (and exactly the same turns of phrase) in response to this column I hoped to demonstrate through satire what a stupid attitude that is, but - needless to say - it was all lost on him. He recognised that my argument was full of crap, but he didn't make the connection between the "arguments" I was making and the arguments he makes seriously on a daily basis.
I HOPE THAT CLEARS EVERYTHING UP??????

i dont think i can read any further or my brain might just explode. |
Yeah, he's pretty "out there". I think his finest moment was a couple of years ago when he wrote a column saying that women shouldn't become politicians because they were irrational and intellectually inferior to men. I mean seriously: even if you think that, what the hell would make you think it would be a good idea to publish it in a paper with a readership of 600,000 people? :-/
